The replies in this thread are very interesting, but they skirt what I feel is the most important and unsettling aspect of the new pornography. That is the clearly uncoincidental rise of artifice-free sexual humiliation/degradation along with this more visually appealing and unending pool of disposable young female "talent". In the days of Taija Rae and her ilk, the trappings of stardom and performance were in full force, glamour really, a pornography which in retrospect clearly aspired to the "legitimacy" that others in this thread have attributed to the monstrous landscape of the new pornography---yet the talent pool was very narrow then and oftentimes unappealing. Now there is a juggernaut of Laura Palmers volunteering for sex acts on video that are demonstrably designed to destroy their individual human dignity for the pure sadistic spectacle of it, oftentimes in tandem with mocking of any notions of celebrity or stardom or glamour the young women may be flirting with in their decisions to appear. Why is this? It is the difference between a sex serial killer what preys on streetwalkers and one what preys on college girls. The first only inspires alarm after the body count reaches a level that makes it impossible for civilization to ignore the slaughter of its disposables, the second shakes the community to its core immediately before the first young woman's corpse has even cooled. Something very important is happening in the new pornography. I don't have the words to put a name to it. I doubt if words could suffice in any case. I imagine it will work itself out, however.
