Only in California, where the adult industry has become as much a career option as anything else, and an industry that has grown to become 'almost' mainstream, will one see reference to it on the website for the Division of Occupational Safety and Health. I can promise you, we won't likely see this on the websites from DOSHA or OSHA in New England! All I can say is, if you want to be one of the big dogs in American business, you're likely going to have to surrender to governmental oversight, like it or not.

The page is dated 2003. What's new?

Most in the biz have never seen that page nor even realize the ramifications of not taking the proper precautions for talent.

I was in Sacramento with the Free Speech Coalition for their lobbying day and I was able to discuss the state of the industry with several members of the California Legislature. Each one voiced concerns that performers are not being covered for workers comp and they arent being provided health insurance. Some also talked about making HIV testing mandatory. And others just basically stated that if the industry doesnt self regulate its business practices, Sacramento will step in and do it for them.

I suppose one more outbreak and theres going to be major legislation forced on the industry.
