My latter day fav's have been: King's X: Gretchen Goes to Nebraska The Deftones: White Pony Kyuss: Gardenia (Welcome to Sky Valley) Incubus: Circles (the Incubus guy has tons different tones) I'm sure I've forgotten many more of my favorites, but for my judgement, Gretchen Goes . . . has got the tastiest crunch of them all.

I agree with Van Halen's brown sound (havent heard that since Guitar Magazine in the early 90's) Pantera's grove metal tone rocked as well. My own tone right now is using .10 gauge strings tuned down to D. For guitars its Charvel and ESP. For amps, I use an Ampeg or Line 6 head. I keep the treble at 8, mid-range at 4 and bass at 7. The rest of my rig consists of Jim Dunlop Wah-Wah Pedal, Boss Flanger, Boss HM-2, Boss Chorus and a Noise Gate. _________________________
