Stingrays normally will stay away from you but I heard on the news that he actually dived into the water on top of the stingray when its tail pierced his heart. His wife was bush walking in Tasmania so it took a while before she was notified. Its funny how it happened only this morning yet already its news around the world and Australian TV is working on tribute shows to him. He has been well known in USA forover a decade but its only really been the last couple of years that he's been well known in Australia since he came back here to live
