Back in my misguided youth, I was a lefty. I turned away from it in disgust when I realised the sloppy thinking that underpins it all. Time and again I saw conservatives making a reasoned case and the lefties would always resort to fallacies and ad-hominem attacks to "win" the argument. It really seemed to be much more about personalities and "sticking it to the man" than any sort of reasoned thinking. The saga of Saddam really sums it up. When he was our ally, we were propping up a tyrannical regime. When he was our enemy and we imposed sanctions, we were causing poor innocent children to starve. When we took decisive action to get rid of him, we were making war on all those poor innocent people. How could we avoid being bad guys in this philosophy? They live to complaint and accuse, but they don't offer solutions to anything.
