Try looking at the Census report on the economy that was released yesterday to see how the "regular folks" are doing under republican "leadership"

"Regular folks" are doing just fine, if by "regular folks" you mean those that try hard, get at least their high school diploma, and don't have fantasies of making more money than they're actually worth.

If by "regular folks" you mean high school dropouts who want to earn $75k/year will a skill set that might one day qualify them as a burger-flip, no they're not doing so great, and haven't been for about 30 years. Tough.

As shocking as it sounds, the economy is actually doing quite well overall, and unemployment is not a problem (look at the European rates sometime).

Bush has become way too dependent on the radical right, and the Republican party is not far from the mistake the Democrats made, becoming too dependent on their own extremists in the selection of their candidate.

The important thing is to select candidates that can win the general election and not just the loonies (in both parties) that act as "party faithful". That's essentially what happened to the Democrats last time when they picked a Liberal from Massachusetts to run against Bush.

It seems Dean has figured this out but it's not clear he's been able convince the rank & file (see: Lieberman vs. Lamont). We'll see if the Democrats pick a moderate next time or pick another left-wing favorite such as Billary Clinton.

As for subpoena keep in mind that the House has to work with the Senate and that they can't just stop all other work. Also, such investigations are inevitable in two years anyway even if the Democrats lose the next election.
