This is my favorite post. Is this simply the effects brought about by the accumulation of toxins dumped in to eastern european water tables by the communists? Can someone say mercury poisoning?
Close, dude...me personally, I always have been (and remain so) suspicious of the dietary/nutritional sorry state of affairs that exist in most Eastern Bloc/ex-communist lands....for decades they were malnourished/undernourished, lviing off of mutated potatoes and poorly distilled Vodka. Down came the wall in 1989 and up went the Golden arches and some Taco Bells, so that now the current (and future) generations of people living in these lands will have an entirely NEW set of dietary/nutritional problems. I'm serious....environmental disasters brought about by things like Mercury dumping and Reactor Meltdowns are bad enough, but generally are localized and acute, with the damage done generally dissipating after a couple mini-generational shuffles (I mean, the Chernobyl disaster almost doesnt count 'cuz almost anyone within 200 miles of the incident just flat out fucking died, right??) But, never underestimate the staying power and devestating effects of all that partially hydrogenated oil used by fast food restaurants in semi-poor neighborhoods in Budapest, Bucharest and Minsk...
