I saw 'The Passenger' years ago on The Movie Channel or something. I remember Nicholson doing a scene whdere he was bored waiting on one of his adopted identity meetings and smears a bug against a wall. I also remember the footage of the firing squad, with the poor fucker rousing after each salvo for whatever reason, body or mind. BLAM. and the grainy film shows the whites of his eyes blazing forward yet again and his arms come up gracefully as if he was trying to finish some business of life before he's gone. And Nicholson hitting his Jeep with a shovel. And that lovely young woman. And the camera drifting at the end. I only speak English and a very little German and am monstrously ignorant of the life of the rest of the world outside America. So subtitle films are seriously stillborn things for me.The only other Antonioni movies I've seen are 'The Red Desert' and his bit in 'eros' from a few years back. I have no contexts for it, but I love his feel for being the looker, not necessarily and stupidly godlike as in Kubrick but like the god within looking lusting a despairing .
