-----------------------------------------------------------

I get a lot of questions about how to get into the adult industry, and I figured I would try my best to offer some insight into the industry, that might help those of you who are considering taking the plunge.

I don?t want to make it sound all ?sunshine and rainbows? and I also don?t want to make it out to be all bad, so I will try my best to just write what I have learned, personally as well as through research and observation that you may not know.

EVERYONE YOU KNOW AND LOVE WILL FIND OUT EVENTUALLY.
Okay, so this seems pretty obvious, but I think it?s an important thing to mention. If you decide to give it a go, and it turns out to be not ?your cup of tea? then you can?t just make it go away. Your face and your naked ass will always be out there. Think about how it will affect you when your friends and family ?stumble across? one of your movies. Can you handle them knowing you were spreading your legs for the camera? and the whole world to see? You can?t hide it from them forever, they all eventually find out.

On the other hand, it?s good to know that if you are a total exhibitionist and you love to have people watching you naked, with your legs spread and fucking different people, then this is certainly an outlet for that. I live in a household where clothing is optional, and I go to nightclubs where you can legally have sex so making the step to porn was an easy one for me. I love to be naked, and I love to be watching while having sex. It?s a natural high for me and I love every minute of it. Just be sure you can outweigh the negatives with the positives. (sorry mom & dad, but I am *truly* happy doing this)

THERE ARE HEALTH RISKS INVOLVED, NO MATTER HOW RECENT YOUR/THEIR AIM TEST IS
Yes, it is comforting to know that with AIM testing and educated decisions, the risk of catching sexually transmitted diseases is greatly reduced; however, it is not eliminated. For those of you who don?t know, AIM stands for ?Adult Industry Medical? and is the organization that adult performers get their STD testing through. The results of each performer is made available to the industry so that it can be verified that each performer is free from Chlamydia, Gonorrhea and HIV. In order to comply with the regulations these tests must be up to date and within 30 days of the ?performance? in order to be valid.

It is certainly nice to know that performers are being tested and that you are reducing your risk of catching an STD when you are having non-condom sex on set. Be sure to know that even if you were using condoms, you are still not protecting yourself from everything. It is quite common in the industry (or anywhere else, for that matter) to come into contact with HPV and herpes. More likely than not, if you choose to become an adult performer you will at some point come into contact with either or both of these. Be aware, and don?t rely just on an AIM test to protect you. HPV can lead to cervical cancer, and herpes is forever. Know your risks.

YOU CAN?T ALWAYS CHOOSE YOUR CO-STARS
Scenario: your agency has hired you to do a boy-girl sex scene. You show up on time, get your hair and makeup done, you sign the model release and show your AIM test. You?re all excited and ready to go, and you?re just waiting for your co-star to arrive. There?s a knock at the door and when s/he walks in your heart sinks. Your co-star turns out to be too fat/skinny/hairy/bald/old/young/greasy/pimply/smelly/creepy? etc. the list goes on.

Okay, so you know that not all of your co-stars will be attractive to you, but can you put on a good show even if you are turned off? Of course you don?t have to do anything you don?t want to, or are uncomfortable with, and you can have a list of ?preferred talent? of who you like to work with and a ?no list? of who you would refuse to work with. Other than that, you need to be able to have sex, and hopefully convincing sex, with someone you may not find attractive. (lots of lube, anyone?)

YOUR FACE (AND NAKED ASS) COULD END UP ANYWHERE
Once you sign the model release giving up the rights to your work (which is what normally happens) your porn could end up anywhere. The company you shot for could take those photos of you and sell them to a trans-sexual phone sex line where they would photoshop a penis over your vagina, leaving your picture asking for ?horny tranny-lovers call now for hot phone sex? and you would have no say in it. Once you make your movie it could be released for sale in that little variety store that your dad buys his cigarettes in, (hey ? that looks like Haley?.) or published all over the internet as a mass email. Maybe *yours* was the one spam message that your mom happened to accidentally click on.

Not all porn is made this way. Some people choose to start their own company and shoot their own content, keeping the rights. There are other options. The way it mostly works is the above mentioned? hired by a company to do a scene. You get paid for that day?s work, and they keep all the footage and rights.

I can?t think of anything else to add to this list right now. Making porn, for me, is fun and exciting. I knew it was the right decision for me once I made my first scene. I wasn?t nervous *at all* and I had a blast! I love arriving on set and having my makeup and hair done. I love being fussed over and I love the attention. When the lights and cameras are on me, I come alive and I am truly happy. I am an exhibitionist, and I love sex.

I love being a pornstar!

So long as pornography remains a compelling abstraction, no number of such utterances will wrinkle the minds of the young women what disastrously approach it open. Anymore that relatives telling her that a new boyfriend is not good for her will. This insight is not mine own, by the way.

Totally understandable….hopefully it may penetrate that noggin of theirs and they maybe able to grasp at the understanding that it’s only just a job and to be educated to it as such.

Just as no one in life starts out as the “president” of a company or of the United States it all takes time and you actually have to build up your credentials and not to just show up on set and declare that you’re the shit and that you can tell a producer how to run their show. What I am tired of hearing is that “X producer” never told me what sort of shoot it was in advance since there only interested in the money at the time and they said yes to the proposal initially. Do your homework if you don’t like anal don’t do a 100 man anal gangbang…really watch beforehand what type of content that shooter shoots. It’s really simple as that.

I also hope to let girls know that the chances of the working with either “their talent” or some “hot” guy is simply the luck of the draw…..some select shooters will allow their boyfriend to be the “male talent” and they might actually like the guys “looks” they are paired up with for their scene. But just like the “Jenna” illusion of stardom it’s usually far and between in the vast majority of most porn whore case scenarios.

Do you work in pornography? If so, in what capacity do you work in pornography?
