PHOENIX (AP) -- Former major league slugger Albert Belle was sentenced to three months in jail and five years of supervised probation Thursday for stalking his ex-girlfriend. The 39-year-old Belle pleaded guilty in July to one felony stalking count. He had initially been arrested and charged in February, then rearrested May 17 at his Scottsdale home after he again contacted the victim. He has been jailed since the second arrest, and received credit for time served only since he entered his plea. Superior Court Judge James Keppel warned Belle that if he contacts the victim again he will go to prison. Belle's former girlfriend told police in January that she discovered a Global Positioning System tracking device that had fallen off her car and that Belle had threatened her. The volatile Belle often ran into trouble on and off the field during his playing days. A five-time All-Star outfielder, Belle hit 381 home runs in a 12-year career that began in 1989 with the Cleveland Indians. He also played for the Chicago White Sox and Baltimore before retiring in 2000 after his second season with the Orioles. LINK

On July 15, 1994, Belle's bat was confiscated by umpire Dave Phillips after White Sox manager Gene Lamont voiced his suspicion that the bat was corked. The Indians knew it was corked, and set out to replace the bat, which Phillips had put in his locker. During the game, Indians pitcher Jason Grimsley wriggled through a crawl space above the ceiling above the umpires' locker room, dropped through an escape hatch, and replaced the corked model with a conventional one. "My heart was going 1,000 miles a second," said Grimsley. "I just rolled the dice, a crapshoot."
But the caper was easily found out -- the faux Belle model Grimsley had put in Phillips locker had Paul Sorrento's name on it. Belle was suspended for seven games. In his autobiography, released just a few weeks ago, former Belle teammate Omar Vizquel wrote about the "Batgate" incident: "I can be naive at times, but I'm not stupid. Certainly not stupid enough to steal Albert's corked bat and replace it with one that looked completely different -- one that was autographed by Paul Sorrento. That wasn't even a nice try. The problem, of course, was that all of Albert's bats were corked."

I'm glad you posted this King, for living in Scottsdale I have crossed paths with Crazy Al on a few occasions. The first time, an acquaintance of mine went on a date, ONE date, with Albert and he pulled this stalking shit on her. She said of him then (1999) " That guy is fucking crazy". Well said indeed.
Not long after that I worked at a great golf course where we would get some blingy clientele from time to time. So imagine our suprise when this foursome rolls up on us and keeps returning: Albert Belle, Tony "Crackhead" Phillips, and Vince "I throw M-80's at little girls" Coleman with a token whitey handler rounding out the crimewave. Un-fucking-believable.
They paid no attention to cartpath rules, golf etiquette, or the Geneva Convention for that matter. Holy shit dudes, a word of advice. If you want to play golf for money against Tony Phillips and you don't want to get a gun pulled on you, lose.
. . . and fuck Jason Grimsley too, cheating fuck.
