It will come as no surprise that the residents of a city known as "The Nation's Watering Hole" like to have a beer or two.

But Milwaukee isn't just your average brewing town. It's the hardest-drinking city in America, according to Forbes.com's ranking of America's Drunkest Cities.

To determine the rankings, we started with a list of the largest metropolitan areas in the continental U.S. Thirty-five candidate cities were chosen based on availability of data and geographic diversity.

Each city was ranked in five areas: state laws, number of drinkers, number of heavy drinkers, number of binge drinkers and alcoholism. Each area was assigned a ranking in each category, based on quantitative data, and all five categories were then totaled to produce a final score, which was sorted to produce our rankings.

Milwaukee ranks high for its drinking habits across the board. According to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System Survey 2004, more than 70 percent of adult Milwaukeeans reported that they had had at least one alcoholic drink within the past 30 days — the highest percentage on our list. Twenty-two percent of Milwaukee respondents confessed to binge drinking, or having five or more drinks on one occasion--also the highest on our list. And 7.5 percent of the population were reported as heavy drinkers — adult men that have more than two drinks per day, or adult women who have more than one drink per day.

Wow...I thought Dallas, TX was America's drunkest city.

I lived/danced there for 3 months and, lemme tell you, that place even out-drinks Las Vegas! In Dallas, it wasn't just the strippers and musicians drinking vats of liquor every second.

One resident's pool was shaped like the Crown Royal bottle.

The business people working in cubicles were total alkies as well. These people would order a bottle of wine at lunch, go drinking after work, hit the clubs and drink until closing, drink at after-hours, then come home and toss back a few beers to get to sleep. They'd wake up with a Bloody Mary and pack a shot of Hennessy for the Starbucks drive-thru on the way to work.

I was no fun in that town since excess alcohol just makes me fall asleep.

Milwaukee doesn't have shit on Australia, we know how to drink, but not how to stop, and certainly not how to ask for help except to ask to have your stomach pumped.

Milwaukee doesn't have shit on most of Europe.

here we go...I am from Milwaukee,(some of you cats may remember me from old posts)...and the reason I havent posted on here in a while is because the courts forced me into mandatory alcohol rehab...I was commited because the courts thought I was a menace to society(drunk and disorderly a few too many times)...actually right now Im out on weekend pass...I have to live in a 90 day half-way house. This is by far one of the hardest things Ive ever gone thru(military included). I got myself into plenty of trouble this time, and it's far from over. The courts are really sticking it to me this time... but anyways, Milwaukee drinks with the best of 'em...so does Madison(usually the # 1 or 2 party school in the nation)

I too agree with the others that Europe easily outdrinks the States.

I also hope everyone on the board is well...have a drink for me...lord knows I want one.

If anyone happens to be drunk and in Milwaukee, beware of this native Milwaukeean, Latrell Sprewell. He is angry, unemployed, and will run over you with his yacht be you on water or land. You have been warned.
