A woman has been convicted of rape and jailed for three years for filming her partner's sex attack on a young girl.

Lisa Duncan filmed William Duncan, who was jailed for eight-and-a-half years, while he raped the nine-year-old in Keith, Moray in August 2003.

Judge Lord Hodge told her: "In a minor way you assisted your partner to have sex with a nine-year-old girl."

At the High Court in Glasgow, both 23-year-olds were banned from ever working with children.

The female accused used a camcorder to record the girl's ordeal, the court heard.

A jury had to watch the "distressing" film, and members were excused further service for 10 years because of the evidence they had to endure.

Lisa Duncan was found guilty after trial of rape by assisting her partner to violate the child.

She also admitted abusing the child by having sex with Duncan in front of her.

Judge Lord Hodge told her: "Your actions appear to have been influenced by sexual and physical abuse of you by Mr Duncan."

'Incalculable damage'

Lord Hodge told her partner, who admitted rape: "You have pleaded guilty to very serious sex offences against a young girl. You had sex with your victim on one occasion on video when she was just nine."

The court was told by experts that both accused were at risk of reoffending.

Lawyers for the pair said they both had learning difficulties and regretted what they had done.

Grampian Police Det Insp Ewan Strachan said: "The sentences reflect the horrendous and serious nature of the offences carried out by the two accused.

"The damage caused to the young, innocent victim involved is incalculable.

"I must stress that the successful conclusion of this case could not have been achieved without this young victim taking her courage in both hands and coming forward to tell her story.

"Our thoughts are very much with the young girl who has endured the kind of ordeal no young person should have to suffer. I sincerely hope that with the appropriate support that is available she can today start to rebuild her young life."
