Boxing IMO became to corrupt with bad decisions, poor matchmaking and rankings that were pretty poor as well. A severe lack of great fighters in this era doesn't help.

Yeah- the thing with MMA is that the sport evolved and that helped but it is the fighters that have really made the difference. They are all well rounded now so if a submission guy gets a striker on the ground it is no longer a boring match. the striker has a chance on escaping or getting the upper hand in most cases.
