MAHOPAC — Carmel police said today that detectives charged a 37-year-old Jefferson Valley man with fondling one of two 13-year-old girls whose photographs he agreed to take so they could create personal profiles on the controversial Web site, MySpace.com.
Now, police want to know if other girls may have been abused by Gordon Greco of Jefferson Valley, an employee of 1-2-3- Floors on Miller Road, which is near the town's bicycle path. Police said the alleged abuse took place in a back room at the business.
"We want to put the name out there and see if there are any other victims," Detective Sgt. Jack Harney said today.
Harney and Detective Joseph LoPiccolo arrested Greco on Saturday around noon, charging him with second-degree sexual abuse, endangering the welfare of a child and forcible touching, misdemeanors. The arrest followed a month-long investigation.
Greco remained at the Putnam County jail today in lieu of $75,000 bail.
Police said that on July 6, the two girls, who knew Greco, went to the business to get their photographs taken for MySpace.com, a popular social-networking Web site where users can create profiles that include personal information, photographs and even phone numbers.
While taking the girls' photos, Greco escorted one of them into a back room at the business, where he fondled her, police said.
The MySpace site has become controversial because young and underage girls have been sexually abused by men, including older men, they met on the site.
