FUCK THAT SHIT!!!! Mann's best sequence and the defining moment of his career is the HEAT gunfight sequence in downtown LA, when they (DeNiro, Kilmer, Sizemore) all come walking out of the bank and all hell breaks loose. It was so compelling a couple of clowns actually tried it out in real life... and lost too.
Too bad Mann fucked up the movie at the end and had DeNiro's character whacked in one of the dumbest sequences in film history.

Agreed...it's just flat-out open warfare
If you want a movie that's every bit as good as Heat but De Niro walks away at the end, I would suggest 'Ronin'.
