Rummaging through my old old stuff in the loft above the house I grew up in, I found my Strawberry Switchblade cassettes and was lucky my brother still had an old Boom Box with cassette player to listen to them. Fuck I miss the 80s....

In addition to pissing standing up, I can also climb stairs with a little help, and if I am having a bad day, there is always the scoot on your ass method-push yourself up with your arms, one step at a time...remember I am very muscular. I also was an A student in the physical sciences and a pulley system is well within my capabilities.

truth is, I wasnt looking for old music, I was looking for a footlocker that has all my old High School papers and shit...I was looking for an editorial I wrote for the school newspaper where I advocated obliterating the Warsaw Pact with neutron bombs disguised as Magic Johnson autographed basketballs sent to the commie youth as a peace offering. After I published it (since I was editor) I was allowed to spend the rest of that semester studying at home under heavy sedation

I never understood why people buy greatest hits. If your a true fan, you would own all their cds anyway. Besides, greatest hits doesn't mean best songs on the album. Just some suits' interpretation of it. Im not a Zepplin fan, but I borrowed all the cds from a friend and made my own compilation of the songs I actually liked.

Grinderman. Nick Cave is channeling Neil Young, apparently. I knew he'd get angry again, thank god. "No Pussy Blues" is my favorite track.

Took a day off, went music shopping:

Devo: Duty Now For the Future

Subhumans(UK): Internal Riot(Some of the old punk rock bands are putting out some pretty kick-ass stuff this year )

The Legend of Johnny Cash Vol. II

Speaking of old punk bands, my buddy went to see Bad Brains at a RiotFest in Chicago this weekend. He claims the band seemed to be giving it their all, but their singer was being a complete and total dick on stage. He singing the songs wrong on purpose, if he was even singing at all, and spent the rest of his time onstage sitting on next to the drums with his arms folded and not doing anything as the band played. People were throwing garbage in his direction to show their disapproval.

Anything with AIC is great. There's a new album due out in 2008. People are giving shit to the new singer because he isn't Layne Staley, but then again;who is? No one gave shit to Brian Johnson when he replaced Bon Scott.

I'm of the opinion that AIC without Staley is not AIC. Sorry. His voice, lyrics and presence/demeanour were a huge part of what made the band so interesting. One more thing also; if the "new" band bring out an album (under a major label) it's going to reek of pro-tools, polish and modern sterility. Their old creepy, arcane atmosphere is going to get the boot in favour of stuff that the label can go to radio/MTV with. Count me out.

I agree he was a big part, but I think the heart and soul is Cantrell. Cantrell is old school and I doubt pro-tools would find itself onto their music.

I'll give the new AIC a listen, but the question I have is how much does Jerry Cantrell have left in him? The guy was coked the fuck out for so long I'm sure his skills have eroded. Fucker couldn't be bothered to look out for Layne, either.
I guess I can't blame him, exactly, I think Layne was determined to go out like he did.

I just don't want to hear any goddamned songs about heroin. I hate it when a perfectly good groove and melody is overlaid by lyrics about spoons or "chasing the dragon" and all of that bullshit (Kurt Weiland I'm looking at you). Know what I mean?

My wife has learned to not be around when I'm posting pics. It's easier that way.

I found a copy of Frank Zappa's Apostrophe at a flea market this weekend. This used to be my favorite album. Every lyric is still burned into my head, even though I haven't listened to it since 1990.

Go to this link: http://www.theperfumedgarden.blogspot.com/

scroll down a bit to "Active Sessions" on the right-hand side...

...and you can download ZIP files of some very nice stuff...

...I recommend the 1979 PIL session and the 1974 Brian Eno session...

I could never get into his music. He's a great guitarist, but a shitty songwriter. I only like a handful of his songs. They were just excuses for him to solo all over.

In Yng's defense, I reckon he has a couple of decent song-orientated albums, provided you're into '80s metal. The Alcatrazz album he did is more in the Rainbow tradition than his later adventures. Of his Rising Force material, "Marching Out" is a solid metal record with some killer songs (plus it features Jeff Scott Soto, who is easily the best singer Malmsteen's ever had). "Trilogy" also has some great numbers, replete with Dio-ish fantasy lyrics.
I'm not as interested in his material post '86. Patchy at best, plus his technique and sound changed for the worse. Usually one or two decent tunes per album, though.
That video's worth a try - the band were promoting "Marching Out" so play all the good stuff from that plus 3/4 Alcatrazz numbers. "Focken'" Yngwie's on good form, too. Definitely his best recorded show for balancing time spent playing songs with time spent showboating.

That cover was okay. Have you heard any of the tribute albums out there? Napalm Death and Flotsam both do great covers of Damage Inc. Best cover of Metallica I heard is by a band called Prototype. They covered Battery and it just kills.

The Forsaken (Swe) do a reasonable take on "Blackened", provided you don't object to dry production and overly-triggered blast beats.

Today:
Mutiilation - Majestas Leprosus
Deathspell Omega - Si Monumentum Requires Circumspice
Cryptopsy - None So Vile
Suffocation - Despise the Sun

Again, it sounds like an "Onion" article about misspelled "metal" bands, some of whose fans will posit bloody UFC fights in their signature and violently attack the English language!

I would say it's pretty short-sighted to attack metal on the grounds of language perversion. Rap/Hip-Hop and dance-orientated music are much worse offenders.

Explain Gunker. Where have I attacked the English language?
They are "metal" bands as you have no understanding what death metal is. I don't understand hip-hop, but I don't go bashing something I don't know. That is ignorant. I checked out your Beat Meat Manifesto links, not my type of music, but I'm not going to stereotype you by it. As far as my sig goes, that was a great fight. Something you probably wouldn't know as the most athletic thing you have probably done is workout your wrist to porn.

Yeah, you're mostly right.

I was in "Papercut" mode last night and apologize for same.

However, that animated signature is still troublesome, especially when encountered while scrolling through a bunch of "wrist workout" photos.
