LinkThe search was on for a couple of costumed crooks Tuesday night who were robbing northeast side stores, dressing up like members of the Ku Klux Klan, authorities said.
The masked men robbed an Advance Auto Parts store on FM 78 Tuesday morning shortly after it opened, Bexar County Sheriff’s deputies said.
"(They are) two black males wearing Ku Klux Klan type hoods,†Sgt. Chris Burchell with the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office said. The men wearing the hooded masks ambushed workers and a customer just as the store opened, officials said.
"(They) came in here and displayed a gun, stole some money, and also stole a wallet off of a customer,†Burchell said.
The white-hooded suspects drove off in a getaway car which was parked behind the store, witnesses said.
"We found a roll of coins and one of their hoods back behind the building where the vehicle was hidden," Burchell told News 4 WOAI.
Tuesday’s robbery was not the first by the costumed crooks in the area, investigators said. Other business owners have complained they have been robbed in the same way. Owners who have not been hit by the thieves were worried Tuesday.
"It definitely concerns me,†James Runnells with the Daily Brothers Barber Shop said. “Everybody would like to see those type of people out of circulation."
Workers and clients in the salon told News 4 WOAI the suspects' Klan inspired costumes add insult to injury.
Investigators were working to find the suspects Tuesday night. The suspects may be driving a black or dark colored Suburban, officials said. If you have any information to help catch the suspects, call the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.
