If I may use something of an analogy here, back when I was a kid my parents would let me go fishing, climb around in trees or on the porch roof of our house, ride mini-bikes and three-wheelers, camp out along a riverbed, and tons of other stuff with a degree of danger totally unsupervised. Then came this neighborhood bully/judge, jury, and executioner called SRS and the next generation of parents reacted to this by pretty much chaining their kids in their living rooms, giving them video game consoles, and not letting do anything with even the slightest risk of danger.

Long time XPT posters are like my parents. They pretty much let most stuff go, assuming that new posters would learn from their mistakes, and would only intervene to whip someone's ass when that someone truly did something that needed immediate attention and a strong response to.

Then a couple of years ago alt-i.d.s started playing havoc with the board, leading to much foaming at the mouth and a lot of folks running around like their hair was on fire. Since then this board sees alts in every shadow and around every corner. Just like the modern day social worker the alt has become the boogeyman.
