Howard Stern Show Taken Off Clear Channel Stations

SAN ANTONIO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 25, 2004--Clear Channel Radio has suspended the broadcast of Viacom's Howard Stern show, consistent with its Responsible Broadcasting Initiative announced earlier today. After assessing the content of yesterday's Howard Stern show, Clear Channel worked with local market managers to take swift and decisive action.
"Clear Channel drew a line in the sand today with regard to protecting our listeners from indecent content and Howard Stern's show blew right through it," said John Hogan, president and CEO of Clear Channel Radio. "It was vulgar, offensive, and insulting, not just to women and African Americans but to anyone with a sense of common decency. We will not air Howard Stern on Clear Channel stations until we are assured that his show will conform to acceptable standards of responsible broadcasting," Hogan said.

i have friends who are talk show hosts in orlando on a clear channel station... cannot wait to talk to them about this.

Was there something that was actually more offensive than normal on yesterday, or is this more reactionary fallout of these companies being too much of pussies to stand up for what is right in face of this administrations conservative election-year bullshit.

im listening online to the station in FL, hearing them discuss it on all shows. and im gonna call drew later today, but from what i know it was due to a caller who made some comments to Rick Solomon who was on discussing the Paris video. apparently though Stern is back in old form daring viacom to fire him and attacking the FCC after this incedent, he is also accusing clear channel of Breach of contract.
i agree with robin quiver's quote from this morning "we woke up this morning we woke up in a different america..."

when i talk to drew i will try to get the phone # of bubba the love sponge, i knew him quite well when Kei danced in tampa, he used to come in the clubs all the time with hulk hogan.... this is a scary day in america.

Instead of cowering away,Howard needs to set an example to everybody by bravely fighting these charges,and showing no fear to all of the neo-fascist right wingers via the way Howard always does.

First the right-winger's make a huge deal about a nipple at the half-time show of one of the most violent professional sports in the country. Next, they persuade Clear Channel to axe Stern for giving people what they want to hear.

I don't think it matters who's sitting in the white house. I think everyday Americans that support free speech/expression need to get involved with the issue instead of just sitting on the couch and letting government decide what's acceptable.

crazier things have happened... but when it comes to government interference into 1st amendment rights I think we should all stand together. like how about putting those resources into fighting the real enemies of our nation, not horny americans having fun?

On one side, I understand all the prudes that want to enforce decency laws, but on the other - and this is very, very important to all, if we start to completly dictate what is and is not allowed on the air, where is the line drawn? What would be next on the hit list? Shit, we cannot ever show an 80 year old naked woman (yeah, baby...er,ok, I have issues) on ER without that being edited out....too far, way too far.

im surprised tom leykis hasn't been attacked by anyone other than listeners for the stuff he saysl. Howard is so harmless compared to his early days.

I'm still missing Opie and Anthony. They got yanked a while ago in New York for their on-air stunt. Censorship of any kind sucks ass.
