hey dude, consider getting a light-box. seriously, i'm mildly-affected by SAD and for about 100 bucks you get something more effective than ssri's for treating it. read the paper in front of it for 10 minutes/day and you're golden.

really, i remember my psych lecturer mentioning them as a treatment but at the time i doubted their effectiveness. i'll look into it.
still, SAD isn't all bad; without it scandanavia wouldn't have produced such awesome metal bands over the years.

I'm not a medical expert, but I play one on XPT...it's probably a trade-off. My freshman chemistry prof was cool, but sadistic. He had this theory of losing weight by drinking cold water (body burns energy to raise the temperature of the water to 98.6F). He actually put this on the final. Turns out you need to drink like 160 gallons of nearly freezing water to lose 5 pounds. He also brought a keg to the final.

No its a myth...it is totally dependent and conditional on the individual, what he/she is doing, what kind of shape they are in, and their typical metabolism and it's response to environment. PRO-LONGED exposure to cold will promote FAT storage over time simply as the bodies way of insulation and survivial. Most Eskimos are rather chubby yet with very little heart disease due to the Omega 3's and low simple carbs in their diet, but their bodies store fat easily. I know this to be true having lived in the Northeast and So Cali for substantial lengths of time. In New Englan most chicks, unless they REALLY fucking work at it, gain 10 pounds or more from November thru March, and it is not Simply because of the holidays. Tons of factors....Frosty, Santa, Yukon Cornelius, ALL FUCKING FAT.
Oddly Snow Mizer was the skinny brother and HEAT Mizer was the Fat sweaty slob...must have been all the chips and guacamole in Central America
