I hear the opposite, actually. Supposedly, the holiday is generally unknown in Mexico but better known in the US since liquor companies use it to push tequila and Mexican beers. ("Big liquor" wanted an alcohol-driven holiday in between Spring Break and the start of summer.)

Maybe we should get indignant and demand that "gringo" be referred to as "the G-word".
