How is this going out west? We see absolutely no sign of anyone not working today. Drudgereport doesnt have any news reports. I haven't checked fox or cnn but it's beginning to look like the walkout fizzled.

actually this morning on my way in, i saw mexicans standing on a street corner in the valley with spray-painted bed-sheet/signs getting tickets from cops....

With all those lazy beaner gardners and construction workers not employed today, I bet $5, or 17 billion pesos, give or take a few, that per capita worker productivity will set an all-time national high today.

We won't solve this problem discussing it at XPT, but what the hell. I don't understand why they are pissed off. I understand actually, but why they think its justified is beyond me. The legislation and problems being discussed deal with IL-legal immigration, not legal immigrants. Its like protesting us enforcing our laws. God, what a country.

I went to La Salsa for lunch today and was surprised when I saw the sign the said "closed for 1 day in support of day with out immigrants". Fuckin lazy assholes!! I was pretty sure the folk who work at la salsa have to be legal.

the one thing i cant call mexicans is lazy. Youll never see a mexican begging for money outside a 7-11, its allways white or black people. mexicans are too busy picking grapes or washing dishes or some other menial job noone else wants to do, which is what this is all about. and im actually supportive of the illegals on this one. they dont take jobs from anyone, thats all bullshit.


only problem i have is with legal immigrants who didnt goto work/school today. complete idiots. they should be happy they have a job.

It's all a huge political game which until recently was dominated by the NE congressmen (why is Chappy Ted so behind this?). Any Canuck with an IQ above room temerpature gets a temporary visa to buff-sand hockey sticks for a few years, but no one wants to let in Mario's abuela from Juarez to clean hotel rooms because it "might be taking someone else's job." They play the same charade about threatening to return any illegal immigrants to Cuba, until their milk carton hits Miami harbor, then all bets are off.

Yet at the same time, some of these people have sway they don't yet comprehend. I have a (legal) Mexican cleaning lady come in once a month, I pay her $40 and she works about 3 hours max. She also cleans 60 other units in my condo. She's a low cost provider with a captive market. In capitalism that's called bargaining power. Unfortunately, she looks nothing like the talent at Dirty Latin Maids.

Did anyone watch A Day Without A Messican? It's a terribly accurate account of what happens when all the messican's disappear in California and the state is thrown into disarray and confusion. I thought something similar would happen today but it didn't.

I think this is where the issue seems to get clouded. I don't live in Cali so I don't know every detail regarding different propositions or legislation etc., but as far as I know most people don't have a problem with immigrants in general or Mexicans in particular at all. Its the people that illegally enter the country and then demand free health care, free schooling for their children and instant citizenship that people are not happy about. From what I hear the burden on social programs in the border states is massive trying to cope with illegal immigrants. And you have to feel bad for all the people that are trying to enter the country legally to become a citizen because the influx of illegals certainly doesn't speed up the process for them. As usual the guy that follows the rules gets shit on and the guy that breaks the rules somehow benefits.

I wish they'd throw these idiotic protests every day. By concentrating all the illegal alien landscapers and their beat-up pickup trucks in downtown LA, my commute time was cut by half!

Now we need them to boycott using LA's emergency rooms, public schools, welfare offices, and correctional facilities if we really want to see what life without illegals is like. I was anticipating a very annoying day, but it turned out real nice! Don't be impressed by the numbers in Downtown LA - I could roll a nickel down the street there and get a million Mexicans chasing after it.

It also appears that Mayor Antonio VillaReconquista didn;t show, but Nation of Islam nutcase Tony Muhammed did. I hope an audio clip of his ravings finds itself posted online. I'll keep an eye out.

I'm in Westlake Village... not many illegals here, haven't noticed anything different. Thousand Oaks has a few more illegals though, a buddy told me a few mom and pop food places like Manny's paid their illegal works an extra hundred in cash if they stayed to work the day. That's about it.

Let's make May 5th a day without Cinco de Mayo. Then again, gringos never celebrate it anyway.

Today I did yardwork, refitted all of my drip irrigation uhhh, drippers , threw down some topsoil and mulch with Bermuda seed, and scored 4 points in my league basketball game. No ill effects from the boycott here, though my bball game seriously sucks anymore, I'm not gonna blame it on Mexico.

I was at the rally downtown. Man, it was packed! I had to lie and say I was from Nicaragua! There was alot of anti-bush, anti-capitalism slogans. I also heard alot of Marxist statements, socialism is on the rise in America. Beware! Oh, I saw someone holding a rainbow flag. So funny!

I worked at a location 5 miles from downtown that day. I didn't even notice anything about a protest until I read this thread.
