Today we had mashed potatoes, steak, some green peas and lettuce. Really weird combo. I have to wonder what the lady in charge of catering is thinking and nobody else seems to question this bizarre menu. For her credit the mashed potatoes were really good.

Mashed Potatoes!
I had a craving late last night, but the local stores were closed. Just read your post and ran out the door in time.
I'm gonna down this container right now. This can't be good for me.

You are definitely not my alt because as much as I heart the evilness of mash potatoes (yes, with butter when I reaaally wanna be evil), I make it from scratch. Doesn't even take long to make.

Jeff, so glad for you guys. M Chaya is the bomb. Next, try their bento box.
Today I had the flourless chocolate cake for lunch today at Urth on Melrose/ San Vincente. Not a raw dish, but I figured why not. It was so rich, I couldn't finish it and gave the rest to a bum. Then at home, I made iced green tea with mint leaves.

Today we had Paella, saffron and shrimp. Paella is a Spanish rice dish mainly consisting of white rice, meat, saffron and vegetables. For desert we had a basket of fruit.

That Paella sounds good, loop. It's been awhile.
This is a shrimp salad with shredded green papaya served raw, topped with mint & basil. First time I had this particular dish. Enjoyed it.

The garden burger salad at Lulu's on Beverly Blvd/ La Brea. Canceled the cheese for beets. Slices. Not julienne.

No way. Lima beans and brussel sprouts (though, I love them) have a more dense texture. Beets are more juicy and crisp and cool to the touch. Maybe you had canned or overly cooked beets.

Today we had lunch @ 2:30pm and got the choice of Chicken or Shrimp Chow Mein with either boiled white rice or shrimp fried rice. I opted for the boiled rice and the chicken chow mein. For those that don't know, chow mein is stir-fried noodles. Though the food was pretty decent (for catering) I really think I've outgrown Chinese food.

I had a tuna salad sandwich (which was damn good, I used green onions that I grew myself), a pickled egg, and some grapefruit juice.

Glad you approve. I also like to add things like a couple of pickled onions to my lunch.
I'm not a fat guy and I'm not interested in being one and pickled onions are negligible in calories while being relatively large. They are pretty salty though.
Hey Gia: How do pickled foods fit into a healthy diet? I have never pickled anything but I know it involves hot liquid (often) in the process. Though that isn't meant to cook so much as kill off bacteria and preserve the food is it still considered raw food if I eat a pickled onion?

I had a Grilled Chicken Breast with lettuce, light mayo and just a drop of pesto sauce with tomatoes, cheese and onions. Washed this fine meal down with a bottle of sparkling water. YUM!

Assisted my friend on a shoot. Catering had amazing food with everything for the carnivore to the raw foodist. I had the riceless rolls wrapped in cucumber sheets with carrots and avocados inside. Veggie Naruto is what they were called. I'm gonna request this next time I'm at a sushi place.
Then I went to a Wicked set and drank all their coffee.

We went to a soul food place for a late lunch. I had cube steak, "corn-n-okra" which is creamed corn (unsweetened) and fried okra along with homemade cornbread and sweet tea. I pour the corn over top of the okra.
It's not as good as my grandmothers but it was not bad.
I won't eat supper after that meal.

On a new "lifestyle" ... found a Florida MD whose beliefs are more on the line of what a certain XPT believes I should be eating. So far the diet has been fruitful and fun. And, I'm far less hungry ... especially late at night when most of my eating occurred in the past.
YESTERDAY's lunch:
Fruit cup: 10 quartered cherries and several whole blueberries [fit in a 6 oz "Light & Fit" cup].
3 Sandwiches: 1 slice of Wonder Light Wheat Bread [.25g fat, 6.5 net carbs] 3 slices of lean deli ham. 4 rings of Shoprite Hot Banana Pepper Rings [0 fat, 2g carbs in an OUNCE] 2 pieces of Cento Red & Yellow Roasted Peppers [0 fat, 1g carbs in an OUNCE]. generous squeeze of Gold's Mustard and Horseradish [zero fat/carbs]. [slice folded in stuffed in fat face as a sandwich].
2 quartered Ba-Tampte half sour pickles [zero fat/carbs]
32 oz of tasty Weehawken tap water.
TODAY's
Breakfast for lunch [wasn't hungry this morning].
Cereal: 9 quartered cherries and several whole blueberries [3/4 of a 6 oz "Light & Fit" cup]. 1/2 cup Special K Protein Plus [10g protein, 3g fat, 9g net carbs in 3/4 cup]. 3/4* of 6 oz Dannon Light & Fit Yogurt - Limited Time Only Watermelon [5g protein, 0g fat, 16g carbs in 6oz] generous sprinkle of cinnamon.
The rest of a 10oz coffee from this morning.
[* the rest for snack later]

I've been reading a lot about additives and processed foods for one of my summer classes. Im basically convinced 95% of food is out to get me now. Ive been going to the grocery store with suspicious shifty eyes because all these products don't think Im onto them. I totally am. I've eaten nothing but organic fruits and vegetables the past three days as well as walnuts and ezekiel bread. Im sure this is probably just a phase (like posting on porn forums) but I thought Gia would be proud.

Today I made a variant of my 'Tastemaster's Tuna'. ~1.5 cups of finely chopped celery 1 coarsely chopped yellow onion 3 finely chopped baby carrots 2 finely chopped red radishes coarsely chopped top of a sweet green pepper coarsely chopped top of a mild red pepper ~10 rings of hot banana pepper, finely chopped ~1 tbsp brown mustard ~1 tbsp grated full-strength horseradish ~3 tbsp Pfeiffer's light ranch dressing 3 cans of Chicken of the Sea solid white albacore tuna in H2O Usually I use red onions, but I have an abundance of yellow on hand. Also, the dressing was an "emergency" replacement since, much to my surprise, I didn't have mayo on hand [I usually have too much and end up throwing expired unopened jars away]. It gave it an interesting/different taste. Had as much as would fit on the top of 2 halves of a Thomas' English muffin and liberally chomped on a bunch more without bread. There's lots now for another time and/or snacks. I often take romaine lettuce leaves and use them to 'wrap' the tuna. I also have some yellow and green zucchini to slice to use as "crackers".

Today I had a Sushi Combination lunch special consisting of tuna, salmon, shrimp, red snapper, eel (my favorite) and 6 pieces of tekka maki. All sushi is served with miso soup and a side of rice.
Technically this is a very lazy lunch for, but I've lately been out of energy.

A ham sandwich with yellow cheese and mustard on white bread. And a bulldog root beer. Fancy.

Technically, my lunch was my diner. Went to Cicada with some friends and I had the Grilled Chicken with fettuccine vegetables, mashed potatoes and lemon-green pepper sauce with a glass of Semillon. I didn't keep up with what everyone else had because I was tired.
jeff, where do you have your luncheons? I notice the table setting is almost always the same sunny setting.

Just random spots around LA, mostly. The setting above was indoors, but with plenty of natural light. A little Greek cafe I'd never been to.
Cicada looks great by the way, though not a spot I'd visit often. I've had a craving for some mashed potatoes lately. I'm gonna have to get on that.

It's not really a place I go to often myself, but I have a friend who goes there quite a few times on Saturday because they like to do this Poirot thing and I guess the atmosphere there is just perfect.

Crunchy roll.
Not a big roll fan, but I mowed the sushi before I managed to whip out the camera phone.

Not a fan of rolls either- except maybe California roll. Never heard of the crunchy roll before either. What's it got?
Today I had Spaghetti Bolognese which was made by my neighbor. It was weird: they had a bunch of people at their house going through bags and bags of stuff. At first I thought it was a garage sale but it wasn't. I didn't ask either. The spaghetti was good.

It's basically a California roll, with tempura shrimp in this case, and some crunchy tempura batter on top.
I love the pasta, man. Wish it'd love me back.

Today I had lunch with Sparky at the newly established Hakobe in Beverly Hills. Swank and tidy little joint with an Islandy vibe going on- maybe the owners are from Hokkaido.
Sparky ordered Shake Ikura Don (sliced salmon with salmon egg) with a side order of the chefs selection of assorted sashimi shared between the two of us. I ordered the Chicken teriyaki (boneless broiled chicken and basted with teriyaki sauce).
A pretty cool place with a nice vibe- I like the "private" room, an addition that will surely make less important people feel pretty important.
