i went to the "international festival" in my hometown today, and ate a gyro (sadly, we actually pronounce it 'jy-row") and drank a $5 cup of lemonade. went with my bestest girlfriend, carrie, and her husband (just back from bahrain--he's in the navy) and our kids. saw an old fling-- he was the building sub in my high school, and taught my trig class for a month my senior year. we used to have quickies in the supply closet across the hall from class. he was there with his wife, who was kind of fat. which is funny.

yesterday some friends came over and I bbq'd jerk chicken, pork side ribs and bratwurst with grilled potato, corn and asparagus. Served with Heiniken and Wildberry vodka coolers.

Had a wonderful cordon bleu for LUNCH today : 2 chicken filets baked and filled with bacon cheese and mushrooms - some pomes frittes and a coke made it the perfect meal.

Today I had a very odd LUNCH:
a tuna fish sandwich on white bread and a Cadbury's Daily Milk Chocolate bar. I haven't had this since I was a kid so it was a good treat. Then this chick at work gave me a bottle of water that tastes like bubble gum. It's called Metro Mint Spear Mint water. Didn't like it.

Today I went to Nishimura in West Hollywood because it's been recommended to me a couple of times by friends. Very stylish contemporary located inside a little building close to the Pacific Design Center.
I asked the tiny waitress for some miso soup and she brought me the largest bowl of it I've ever had. I told her it was a little too much and she said "Oh sorry; no charge."
I then ordered 7 pieces of nigiri sushi and 4 pieces of tuna sashimi (tuna, hamachi, salmon, shrimp, eel etc and a special roll with tuna sashimi). All this served on hand-crafted tiles.

Today I had Ceviche Tuna after finding out I had no raw snapper for a Pescado.
I used cilantro, lemon, garlic and tomato mixed with the tuna. I also added some vinegar, thyme, chopped parsley and pimiento.
Took this down with cook and was wired for the entire afternoon.

Today I had lunch with Olga. Olga is one of the coolest girls I know. I was actually surprised to learn she's in her 40s from Sparky who fucked her a while back. You wouldn't tell shes a day over 30.
We had a grilled blackened Chicken Salad with fries. I used a tender breast of chicken, seasoned with cajun spices, char-grilled mixed in with romaine lettuce, julienne carrots, red onion, cherry tomatoes, and grated FarmHouse cheddar and french fries.
We washed this down with two tall glasses of Orange Juice (not sure what the brand is, but my girlfriend got it from the store and it's divine, especially after a hangover).

woke up today determined to give anorexia the old college try. breakfast: zip, lunch: zip...  by two o'clock i felt like nicole richie. then i decided to make spaghetti and meatballs for dinner. fuck.

toasted seedless rye with hellman's on one side and generic italian salad dressing on the other. two slices of swiss cheese and six slices of pepperoni topped with kettle cooked jalapeno potato chips. odd mix, but really tasty.

Sounds good. Today I had lunch with a couple of friends and decided to make Fried filet of fish with tomatoes, onions and shrimp sauteed in garlic, olive oil and white wine sauce served over white rice. We had a couple of glasses of wine and laughed out loud many times.

Went to Chevy's today and had a classic fresh mex combo of Crispy Flautas (Salsa Chicken with roasted red peppers, grilled corn and a melted trio of cheeses) served with mango-habanero salsa and homemade jalapeno jelly.
The girlfriend had their enchilada which comes with Salsa Chicken topped with New Mexico red chile sauce.
She had a grande Watermelon margarita whilst I opted for the Strawberry margarita. Chevy's isn't my favorite but it works when one wants a good luncheon.

Spent four hours in the kitchen today preparing:
Sugo semplice (basic tomato sauce)
Braised celery and tomato
Sage/parsley pesto-stuffed braciolle (rolled and tied flank steak) simmered in the above sugo semplice and an Australian syrah.
Rigatoni with vodka tomato sauce and Zenner's (http://www.zennerssausage.com) Italian sausage
Mashed potatoes with Parmesan-reggiano and prosciutto
Emptied out 5 14.5 oz cans + 2 28 oz cans of tomatoes...

First. thanks for keeping this thread alive, Loopnode. I hate boring food most of the time, every departure is nice. In the afternoon, I made a po-boy of leftover Pacific sockeye salmon with a salsa of strawberries, onion, cilantro, mango, and lime juice, together with some day-old french bread, oregano and olive oil. The oregano was probably not the right choice, but I was redeemed at desert with a Klondike Bar.

No doubt Willie. A good luncheon excursion is what makes a day perfect.
Today is Friday. I had a couple of friends show up: Himalaya and his girlfriend Jasmin and The Griz. Griz is about mid 50s but he's one of the coolest cats you can kick it with. Himalaya and I used to do all sorts of gigs before he suddenly "moved on" and started growing what he calls "my sweet-ass awesome stash". Not sure how Jasmin puts up with him but what can you do?
I fixed them some Spaghetti bolognese with 1 lb. ground beef heated proper in the skillet with extra virgin olive oil and grated parmesan cheese. Washed this down with something called Mountain Valley water; no idea where the gf buys this crap because it tastes odd but does the trick. As to be expected, Himalaya made at least 2 references to his "sweet-ass awesome stash" before the meal was over.

After ballet barre class I went home to my fridge and ate 3 Persian cucumbers and read some magazines. These cucumbers are my new addiction and so thirst quenching on such a hot day. Smaller than regular cucumbers and virtually no seeds. Crunchier, too.

Today we went to Sam's by the Beach just off Pacific Coast Highway for some traditional California basics. We selected a nice table on the side near the large front picture window. It took the gf about 12 minutes to make up her mind what she wanted to eat.
For a starter we got the Sam's Trio which is a sampler dish of hummus, taboule` and babaganouch with pita bread, then ordered the Grilled Butter Fish And Citrus Sauce, one of the best in the city. Both of us drank ice water with our meal.
We talked a lot about the "scene", the drop ass network and tonights plans.

i threw up my lunch about 2 hours ago, it was la brea seeded bread with turkey and provolone olive oil and italian seasoning, toasted, by 9 i was so drunk i vomited in my bathroom, had a friend deliver chipotle, took three bites, realized i was getting heart burn for the first time in my life (22) tried drinking a beer, that hurt to much, laid on my bed staring at the ceiling for about an hour, and am now drinking heavily watered down bourbon, in conclusion im physically dying.

Had a bbq today with my wife. NY strip loin, Italian sausage, live dungeness crab, sweet potato and grilled green and red peppers. She washed it down with cranberry and vodka, while I had several big cans of Stella Artois.

I went to Ca' Del Sole today for LUNCH. I used to really love going to this place until there was a sudden boom of "impostor hipsters" that suddenly flooded this region of North Hollywood and made this a favorite of theirs (possibly because of the Dolce Menu). Sometimes, it's not only a matter of knowing where to go, but when to go there.
Today there was hardly anyone. I sat at the corner near the window and ordered a Carpaccio; raw organic beef fillet served with shaved Parmesan and capers, washed down with a cold glass of Pellegrino.
My intern says "You don't have to go all that way for lunch. Next time, I can bring you something from home. See? My mom makes too much anyways." This girl is very cute.

I also had carpaccio for lunch, but w/out the parma. I only like cheese alone and not on things. Same rule with nuts. Make sense? Probably not. It was catered in at work. I enjoyed rolling it in lettuce leaves like a little sandwich. Also had some fresh bell pepper slices and a banana almond milk shake garnished with cocnut shavings. The shake I made at home and brought in myself.

Today I ordered sushi from Nishimura requesting 7 pieces of nigiri (tuna, hamachi, salmon and shrimp), 6 pieces of special roll and tuna sashimi.
You can also order a Bento Box where you pick 2 types of gyoza, teriyaki or roll, but the pieces are nowhere near enough. Besides, this is the second best Sushi joint in town- next to the retarded prices of Urasawa. $250 for the premium package sushi.

Hot and sour soup, fried pork dumplings with sesame-soy dipping sauce, and beef with gai lin (aka Chinese broccoli), all homemade leftovers.
Over the last two days, also cooked rice with poblanos, beans with bacon, cilantro and tequila, fried cod fritters (for fish tacos), roasted jalapeño and tomato salsa with cilantro, and fideo soup.
