I like them and might even dance to one of their songs when I feature in Minneapolis in May.

When I had a good job, I used to regularly visit a stripper who had a Bettie Page haircut and had the dj play stuff like Billie Holiday when she took the stage. One time, she danced to Primus' 'My Name is Mud', which sounds ridiculous but was one of the most erotic performances I've ever seen. She did that trick during the song's slapbass coda where she climbed the pole, gripped it with her legs, and slowly slid to the floor UPSIDEDOWN, coming to rest perfectly on cue as that *ping* ends the song. I got a private lap dance in a booth from her once to Gary Numan's 'Cars', and I actually ejaculated in my pants as she rubbed her butt in my lap. She didn't pick that song, which somehow made it more exciting.

Right now I'm into, in no particular order, Dis-Lord, Marduk, Rammstein, Meshuggah, Slipknot (yep, I know it's teeny bopper metal), Children of Bodom, and Naglfar.

Love the Scandinavian stuff.

yeah, it's all about the scandanavian metal. there's something potent that arises when a lack of sun for half the year and a persistent system of pagan beliefs that lends itself to kickass metal.

at the moment i'm listening to heaps of opeth, the haunted (fave band at the moment), children of bodom, in flames, meshuggah, soilwork, at the gates, bloodbath, etc. the only american metal i listen to consistently is 80s thrash like slayer and metallica (kill 'em all being an incredibly underrated album).

and don't worry about slipknot, if it wasn't for their debut album back in 99 (and in particular the song purity) i never would have started listening to metal. for me, they were the gateway drug.

I cannot get into the newer scope of metal. I cant stand it. Its so technical and boring to me. Im not gonna say it sucks, but its just not for me. I would take Kreator or Sodom over any of these newer bands. I do however like the Haunted and Children of Bodom and a handful of others. I totally agree with Gia about Marduk, but they arent really new. I guess Im talking anything post 2000. I saw Slipknot open for Type-O Negative, and hated them. Tours of the summer: Exodus and Full Blown Chaos and then comes DRI and Subzero.

April 18th. New SOIA album along with the Icepick album.

yo terijo, your opinion is welcome. i'm always open to checking out music i haven't heard before, so can you recommend some bands and then their best album so i can check them out? i'm trying to get into some of the older stuff but it's hard to find out who's worth listening to without talking to someone who's a fan...

Fuck yeah. I still listen to early 80's-mid nineties thrash. Cant get enough of it. Glad there are still bands playing it today, including my own.

just a few here:
Exodus: Bonded by blood
Testament: The Legacy, The Gathering(drums are insane!!!)
Vio-lence: Eternal Nightmare
Exhorder: Slaughter in the Vatican
Machine Head: Burn my eyes
Kreator: Endless pain, Extreme Aggression,
Mercyful Fate: Melissa
Slayer: Seasons and everything before
Sepultura: Arise
Overkill: Under the Influence
Nuclear Assault: Game Over

Im sorry, I could type forever on this subject, but those are some great albums right off the top. There is so much out there to check out. Posts like this drive me mad, and I spend days just digging thru my music collection...but it just makes me appreciate the music even more.

**by the way, if there is a mod reading this, can you change the title of this thread from opeth to metal thread or something? it's definitely moved away from opeth and i'd love all metalheads to jump in**

Chico, I would love to check out your band. If you can send me a link to some MP3's or whatever you got, I'd appreciate it. PM me if need be.

Yeah the Unholy Alliance tour with Slayer...I would love to go, but at 29 my body betrays me. years of drinking, sports and Jackass like stunts have wrecked it. I just cant go for an all day festival type show anymore. Not even for Slayer(who are my favorite band of all time)... the last time I danced/moshed at a show, I pulled my groin.

lol, I dont even get in the pit myself anymore. I tought about it back in January for Anthrax, but it was the most violent, intense pit I have ever seen...and I've been in alot.It was just bodies colliding into each other for the entire set. No Toxic Waltz for me on the 16th with Exodus.

I suppose Rammstein is OK to listen to, there are many other German bands that sound like them.

I derive the most fun from translating their perverted lyrics from German, and then showing them to the unknowing

been listening to the album Bloodred Hatred by Hatesphere (that's a lot of hate) and it rocks. Danish neo-thrash, similar to the Haunted. check it yo.

The new Sodom album is really good. Has that mid-80's sound and feel to it.

I been playing some oldies lately. Dark Angel:Time does not heal and Exodus: Impact is Imminent.

Got to pick up th new Sodom. Time Does Not Heal is very underated album. You cant go wrong with Exodus. Have you heard Shovel Head Kill Machine? That is a very brutal heavy cd. They are playing this weekend at the Key Club and Galaxy
Theatre.

yeah, the new Exodus album is really good...I was skeptical at first with the new singer and what not, but they held it down big time...I will catch Exodus in Chicago on May 10th...Fabulous Disaster!!!

ps..."Time does not heal" is an epic masterpiece of thrash metal.

I've listened to Battles in the North by Immortal before, I just can't quite get into it. I find it interesting though.

Has anyone heard Mental Cortex by Coroner (Swiss I think)? An epic piece of late 80s thrash, i've read reviews that compare it to Master of Puppets

Though you're right, it is Mental Vortex, I suffered a brain-fart. Either way, great album

The new Sadus album "Out for blood" is amazing. Get the one with the bonus disc, they cover Invaders from Maiden and Merciless Death from Dark Angel. The whole album is great.

and yeah Eddie, MH's Burn my eyes is fucking timeless. I never get tired of that record. Their new DVD "Elegies" is really a good view. they just did a bang up cover of "Battery" from Metallica for the 20th anniversary of Master of Puppets. They fucking killed it!!!

The new Celtic Frost is also very interesting,in a good way.

I like them I've seen them live 3 times now. I've seen them play pretty much every song before Ghost Reveries.

I'd have to say my taste in Metal ranges from the obscure to mainstream.

Terror 2000, a side project featuring members of Soilwork and Darkane who play balls-out thrash with some great song titles, such as "Liquer Saved Me From Sports." They also have some classic cock-rock lyrics:

"I want to be a hunk, with a metal guitar,
Cos people tell me i could go pretty far.
I need some kicks and some Kerry King licks,
And get the chicks by the bar."

It's all in good fun, and the music is pretty good too.
