good choice with the Lou Reed, Velvet Underground, and to a lesser degree T. Rex. I totally agree about most music nowadays sucking. I think it has a lot to do with the fact that most music is now soley made to make money. With the way MTV, the radio networks and the like work, it is all essentally stripped down, watered down and prefabricated.

lol, yah.. i know what you mean... not a big fan of college radio for the most part either. it isnt like ti was 10-15 yrs ago... some times in the late nights like you said. Like in orlando the UCF station WPRK does interesting stuff late night on tursdays... but other than that it isn't discernible from the other stuff. In fact even when they differ out it doesn't go far from the so called "indie rock" that we get everywhere else. Being heavily into electronic Music and Folk music... it does nothing for me.
Luckly we have a mainstream rock station that des sunday night vinyl from 7-11 on sundays and they play lots of older stuff including synthpop, postpunk and industrial.
The music scene in america is in a sad state. BTW, if your going Lou Reed, you can never go wrong with Metal Machine Music... Reading your list made me dig it out and pop it in.
