Anderson's film is a work of cinematic genius, or cinematic precociousness, but I agree with you that Anderson is irresponsible the way he uses the dangerous world of pornography as a colorful backdrop upon which to hang his themes on dealing with family and nurturing and the American dream and all that. Though admittedly he does give poor Rollergirl her due by having her snap and going on a skate stomping tirade against a fan for "disrespecting" her. I wonder how often this sort of scene plays out in real life now that the stars are known to their fans as "whores" who are "cumdumpsters" who "gag on cock within an inch of their worthless lives" and all that. Certainly the chances of mixed signals reaching fans is more explosive than ever.
