media coverage is what made sports so lucrative and fascinating in the first place. if there wasn't television, there wouldn't be millions of viewers, and when the red sox won it'd just be like "the red sox won!!!!!!!!!!!" in every newspaper nation-wide.

with regard to individual players, of course you're going to breed a bunch of lazy assholes with paychecks like that. most of these guys work really hard to be athletes and they're going to be like "we deserve all of that money because we're valuable." extrapolate this to the porn industry (where most girls aren't even talented yet still command fairly large incomes for their age/skill level) and you have the same entitlement and attitude of superiority to the fans.

it's a lack of work ethic coupled with a disinterested or hostile audience. the audience is disenchanted with the game because they know the player's salaries and it's no longer the escapist and grand world of sports that made people want to spend their hard! earned! dollar!
