When I was 12 years old, I discovered The Story of O and was quite obsessed by it.
To my fevered, barely-pubescent mind, it seemed the greatest thing ever written, and I resolved to live my life in emulation of Sir Stephen, etc..a year or so later, I read The 120 Days and that sort of put Miss Reage's work in perspective, but I think that book is the main reason I have a weakness for that cheesy sort of elegant/victorian/secret-society/equestrian type of sadism. The dolls came right afterwards, first in a dream, then miraculously, they began to appear in my room just as I had dreamt they would.
