Paige Completes Directorial Debut

CHATSWORTH, Calif. - Adult performer turned novice director Haley Paige is completing work on Smash Pictures’ May release Virgin Territory, marking her directorial debut.

“From the point that Smash gave me the okay to do this, I was nervous and I thought, ‘oh my God, how am I going to do this?’ But now, I’m really happy with it,” said Paige, who also stars in the title, set for release in early May.

“One of the best things is that even when I’m filming someone else having sex, I feel like I can jump in and fuck too.”

The wall-to-wall movie features Alicia Alighatti doing her first anal scene since she stopped doing them last fall.

“It helps that I’m a woman and I always found it to be easier to work with a woman director. She’s been where you are and it adds an extra level of comfort,” she said.

Under her agreement with the company, Paige is scheduled to direct one film per month, but is able to perform for other companies.

Meanwhile, Smash Pictures plans to release Totally Stacked, starring Vicky Vette and Franchezca on Thursday, followed by the teen-oriented Bang My Box, starring Hillary Scott and Penny Flame, set for release on March 30.

Haley Paige Makes Transition to Directing

CHATSWORTH, Calif. - At 23, Haley Paige already knows the ropes of the adult industry.


Having starred in her first movie just two years ago, Paige is known for her intensity and ability to deliver a hot scene.

So it came as little surprise to those who knew her when Smash Pictures signed young brunette last month to a year-long contract to direct features.

Paige’s youth and easygoing demeanor are just some of the qualities that give her latest movie, Virgin Territory, a distinctive look. That title is scheduled for release May 11.

“I’m very patient and I want performers to have fun and give me a great scene every time,” she says.

“I just wish there were more young women directing and then you’d see a change in how movies look.”

Paige is just one of a handful of young starlets-turned first time directors such as 21-year-old Penny Flame, 23-year-old Hillary Scott, and 23-year-old Paris Gables. And like the others, she is relishing in the opportunity to show just what she can do.

“We love her to death,” joked Smash Pictures vice president Stuart Wall. “She’s a really good director who knows her stuff.”

Paige, who is preparing to shoot her next movie, has her own sense of what a good movie is about.

“It has to have hot sex and have people that have that kind of energy and chemistry that gives you good sex,” she says.

“I think having been a performer, I can relate to what these girls need to make a good scene great and that’s what a woman director does.”

Gables, who at 22 began directing, knows what Paige means.

“It’s a little about intuition, but it’s also knowing what makes good chemistry between performers,” she said.

“It’s the passion and the energy that you look for.”

A native of San Diego, Paige joined the industry right after high school when the only choices she had were joining the army or doing porn.

“I picked porn since I loved to have sex and I needed the money,” she said.

The daughter of divorced Latino parents, Paige knew what sex was all about when she lost her virginity at 16. By the time she was 18, Paige had already realized the power of her sex appeal.

“Guys were always after me and I knew I could get them to do things for me without sex, but sometimes I had sex anyway,” she said.

After doing some Internet work in San Diego, Paige realized the real money was in L.A.’s San Fernando Valley where she joined L.A. Direct Models and soon found her way to a hardcore movie set.

LOS ANGELES — Haley Paige recently wrapped production on her directorial debut, Smash Pictures’ “Virgin Territory,” the first of what she hopes will be a long line of titles for the gonzo company.
Due to hit stores May 11, “Virgin Territory” stars Joanna Angel, Adrianna Nicole, Alicia Alighatti, Codi Star, Holly Wellin and Samantha South with Tony T, James Deen, Steve Austin, Steven French and Joel Lawrence.

Paige said she overshot the movie, which has seven scenes and a running time of 3:05, because she wanted to make a good first impression. She also appears in several scenes.

“I couldn’t help myself; I jumped in five scenes,” she told XBIZ.

Paige said she had no ambitions about directing when she first entered the business; she simply wanted to perform and wasn’t looking too far ahead.

“But then I decided I was going to invest at least a few years in the business,” she said, “so I figured, why not extend my lifespan? I’ve never had a bad experience, so there’s no reason to leave. Why move on if I can make a lifetime career out of directing?”

Paige said a second movie for Smash is already in the planning stage and she will begin shooting within a month.

She will continue performing and is not exclusive to Smash as a director — at least not yet. She said she is looking at doing 1-2 movies per month, for Smash but wants to “see how this first one goes, see if we’re both happy with the way it turns out, and take it from there.”

“From there” might include a new-girl line, featuring girls in their 1st, 2nd or 3rd scenes who have star potential.

Smash Pictures Vice President Stuart Wall told XBIZ he’s known Paige since she entered the business two years ago. She has appeared in a number of Smash productions and signed for the company at the Adult Entertainment Expo.

Wall said that as Paige’s popularity has increased, it was only a matter of time before someone approached her with the idea of directing, and he wanted to be the first.

“Our European distributors have been asking us when we’re going to hire a female director, and timing couldn’t have been better,” Wall told XBIZ. “Haley is a girl that knows what she wants. Haley has this magical presence, where she’s able to get the girls to do things they normally would say no to. Perhaps since she’s a performer too, the girls don’t feel intimidated. The bottom line is that Haley loves what she does, and it shows in her initial shoot.”

Wall added that under the deal, Paige will still continue to shoot for other companies but will only do anal scenes for Smash.

Besides exclusive anal scenes, Paige said, “You can always expect a woman’s point of view in my movies. It’s my vision, what I like to watch at home — movies with passion and energy, with girls who are in the business because they love to fuck. Once I have a few movies out, I’m hoping that people will look at one of my movies and be able to tell it’s a Haley Paige movie.
