 i commissioned this painting when i returned from las vegas in january. it was finished last night. it is 5' x 5' and is very shiny. i have no idea where i can hang it; indeed, it is so heavy that i have to have industrial-strength hangers installed, whatever that means. "breaking whores is my business and business is good" is repeated in cursive. it was painted by local portland artist corey smith, his work can be seen at http://www.coreysmithart.commy mom is so going to kill me but i'm already working on an excuse about how it symbolizes women being oppressed by themselves

That is so fucking cool it defies words. JM Productions should definitely commission something similar for their offices, and am I alone in thinking it would make a great postage stamp design too?

If it's her own hand, it's the right hand. I prefer to think it is someone else's hand, in which case, it would be their left. It's a woman's arm, based on the bony wrist and slender musculature (or Longshot's).
The eyes would be looking up and to the right, as if waiting for the assailant/lover's right hand to come down from it's cocked position, striking her.
The look is not fear, stimulation or revulsion, rather, it's studious - as when the housecat follows you around the room with her eyes, neither head nor body moving.
If this 'whore' is to be broken, she's got a ways to go yet.

I love it. It has shades of Warhol but wtf? there's nothing new under the sun.
The girlvert is the ultimate symbol of "downpression".
If I were Jeff Steward I'd be trying to make sure this image had a home above my fireplace.

definitely go with the political/metaphoric "oppression" theme, but maybe throw in something about "reclaiming the language of the patriarchal oppressor" as a route to "empowerment."
Or, just say it is a contemporary "Guernica," in which women's bodies and minds have become the contemporary killing fields. It is a hyper-realistic "documentary" glimpse into that horror, a caution, a clarion, a call to arms.
Not sure why it reminds me of
this . I also see a lot of Raymond Pettibon in his work ... "Ashley" is definitely a step forward. It's really fucking cool.
