I realise that there is a running beef between XPT and ADT, but frankly, I couldn't give a shit. I try not to concern or involve myself with such matters. I have only been a member at ADT for a short time, but I still felt compelled to give them a piece of my mind with regards to the recent security lapse: Quote:

Yeah, Drew and Stephanie, I think that is a great joke. You guys engaged in some seriously awkward internet thinking, got caught, and now ADT posters are to think this was just a "momentary lapse of reason," and that no one in the ADT hierarchy is to blame for this screwup
And to date, no one has issued an apology. No one has said, "sorry I allowed my PC to be hacked into," "sorry we had to crash the site for a day," "sorry we had lax security controls, because we have to kiss a** to the talent who can't remember their own names or passwords." I've paid my dues and endured my crap for bad AEE (and other) posts "over there," is the upper management of ADT immune from that same criticism?
To anticipate your post about "the tone of my message," yeah, I'm calling you out. And DenverDon. And the rest of you who said "Aww shucks, thanks for fixing this so soon." Yeah, I AM calling you out. I've bought porn based on reviews housed on your website. I've spent a weekend fixing problems you caused.
Anticipating my anger over this will make me "deactivated" I thank you for reading.

I have to go along with what Willie D. has said here....to date, I had only made one post on ADT prior to this one (to leave some trader feedback for ikarus), and now I find myself in the same position as Willie in that I've had to spend a good part of my weekend changing all of my passwords related to that email address.
Suffice to say, I've changed them to something completely different than the one ADT has provided me, and they will be staying different. Frankly, this an unbelievable lapse in security, and it stems from an utterly nonsensical practice of having said information kept on an unsecure computer.
I only check my email sporadically, maybe once or twice a week, so I'm lucky I caught this warning when I did, as none of my accounts elsewhere had been compromised when I logged in to change the passwords. Other people may not be so lucky. If I had managed to obtain the information that was hacked, my first point of call would be Paypal or somewhere similar to see if I had any luck. God forbid that the hacker gets lucky, because the kind of negligence that has been displayed here is the stuff lawsuits are made of.
Suffice to say, I for one am extremely disappointed with ADT in this matter.
I don't think I went over the top at all, I didn't call anyone out by name or suggest that ADT was run by a bunch of inept fucktards (at least not specifically). Rather than an apology, I get this from Drew:

Please sue me, asshole.
...and then, before I have a chance to reply to that, he posts this:

You're such an asshole. And I suspect a liar as well.
I pulled up a copy of an old database backup I made prior to the recent password changes just to see what your password was. It was the randomly generated six character string assigned by the forum when you signed up on 1/24 at 5:52 pm. There's no chance in hell that this password remotely resembled anything you used anywhere else.
Good luck in your lawsuit.
You know what, he was right about my password too. I was wrong, I have no problem admitting it, and I even apologised for it. After all, it takes a man to admit he's wrong.

Drew,
I guess you must be right about the assigned password, I just made the assumption that I had the same password here that I have given myself elsewhere...I must not have gotten around to changing it. As it stands, you are correct in your assertion that it would not remotely resemble any other password I was using elsewhere, therefore the risks of having my accounts linked to that email address compromised were minimal to non-existent.
For that I apologise.
However, I do stand by the bulk of my complaint (and to clear things up, I'm not threatening to sue, I'm just saying that a situation like this, bought on by negligent practices, could certainly leave you open to such action), and I think it reflects badly upon the site.
That said, any damage this episode may have done to ADT's reputation (in my own eyes, if nobody else's) pales into insignificance next to the ill-feeling you have created by calling me an 'asshole' in response to my complaint. I've not yet used ADT to make a purchase, and I definitely won't be using it now if that's your attitude.
I still maintained the principle of my complaint, and I did not resort to calling anyone an asshole either. I always try to take the high road in such matters. As it stood at the time, a simple apology would have been sufficient for me to continue using ADT, perhaps even in a shopping capacity one day. Instead I get this:
Quote:
Thank you. The feeling is mutual. Run along now as it appears that you have no reason to visit this site any longer.
Great way to alienate a potential customer, no? No doubt had I responded by calling Drew an asshole, or a condescending, arrogant prick, I would have been deactivated. After all, wouldn't calling someone an asshole fall foul of this rule?:

Like I said, I didn't have any interest in the spat between XPT and ADT before, and just brushed off all of the nasty comments about ADT's management as part of the parcel of this inter-board brouhaha. Now I see first hand it's all true and then some.
So, let me just say that Brothers and Sisters, I have seen the light and the error of my ways.
Fuck ADT, I'm XPT for life now, and it's all thanks to Drew Black.
