A 12-year-old Aurora boy who said he brought powdered sugar to school for a science project this week has been charged with a felony for possessing a look-alike drug, Aurora police have confirmed.
The sixth-grade student at Waldo Middle School was also suspended for two weeks from school after showing the bag of powdered sugar to his friends.
The boy, who is not being identified because he is a juvenile, said he brought the bag to school to ask his science teacher if he could run an experiment using sugar.
Two other boys asked if the bag contained cocaine after he showed it to them in the bathroom Wednesday morning, the boy's mother said.
He joked that it was cocaine, before telling them, "just kidding," she said.
Aurora police arrested the boy after a custodian at the school reported the boy's comments. The youngster was taken to the police station and detained, before being released to his parents that afternoon.
"This is getting ridiculous," said the boy's mother. "They treated my son like a criminal. .. . This is no way to treat a 12-year-old kid."
East Aurora School District officials declined to comment on the case, citing privacy issues.
The district issued a written statement, which said: "The dangers of illegal drugs and controlled substances are clear.
Could get probation
"Look-alike drugs and substances can cause that same level of danger because staff and students are not equipped to differentiate between the two."
The school handbook states that students can be suspended or expelled for carrying a look-alike drug.
Penalties for juveniles are decided on a case-by-case basis, but if convicted, the sixth-grader could likely face up to five years' probation, said Jeffery Jefko, deputy director of Kane County juvenile court services.
Juveniles who have prior criminal records could also be placed in a residential treatment program if convicted, he said.

That's where Wayne's World took place.
This is not funny shit. Last night at the grocery store I was forced to listen to the fat mommy ahead of me in line regale the checkout lady with her "my daughter had six root canals today" story. Six fucking root canals...this kid was no more than 9 years old. What the hell does she feed that kid? Pixie Sticks for breakfast and Hershey Bars for lunch? This was all very easy to spot because she had to cash her 1,500 WIC checks.
Why am I guessing that I may have paid for a portion of that endodontia?

Thats just fucking Nuts. My local Sheriff just had to release some rocket scientists because they thought they were carrying a huge cache of X, yet it turns out the shit was fake. They go free because they didn't try to sell it. The kid knows it's fake, yet he gets charged. Also, don't think for one second that little prick wasn't running around school bigtiming like he was carrying a bunch of dope. It's just the punishment doesn't seem to fit the crime. I'd link this, but it isn't worth registering for my local rag: Quote:
'Ecstasy' pills seized by deputies are fake
Published February 17, 2006 What deputies thought to be the largest load of club drugs seized locally, turned out to be a large stash of fake ecstasy pills.
Spartanburg County deputies announced Feb. 7 that Gavin Fitzgerald Mcaulay of Atlanta and Walter David Smith of Covington, Ga., were trafficking 10,763 ecstasy pills on I-85 heading toward Atlanta.
On Thursday, authorities announced that all the trafficking charges against the men had been dropped. Mcaulay still has a possession of marijuana charge against him.
Deputies had stopped Smith and Mcaulay for a traffic violation and later asked to search their 2005 Chrysler Sebring. Inside the vehicle, deputies found several bags of what appeared to be ecstasy tablets with smiley faces and sunflowers stamped on them -- the street value of which was initially estimated at $80,000 to $100,000. Recent field tests, however, determined the tablets were not ecstasy.
The tests indicated the presence of MDMA -- an active ingredient in ecstasy -- but the rest of the tablets' composition consisted of over-the-counter medications.
Sheriff Chuck Wright said he believes the two men did not know the pills were fake.
"If they did (know) they would have been protesting," Wright said of the arrest.
The Sheriff's Office was unable to prove the suspects intended to sell the faux ecstasy and dropped the drug trafficking charges.
"It is not against the law to possess a fake ecstasy pill," Wright said. "It is against the law to sell it as an ecstasy pill, though. Had they tried to sell it to one our undercover operators, it would have been different."

Woman fined for shushing mobile caller
February 16, 2006 - 11:58AM
An Australian woman charged with assault after trying to shush an American movie goer who was on a mobile phone has been fined $176.
Pauline Clayton was in Texas on holidays when she decided to catch Australian actor Heath Ledger's movie Brokeback Mountain last week.
Halfway through the picture, a woman film patron took a mobile phone call, and began talking.
Annoyed by the disruption, Ms Clayton, a former Sunshine Coast councillor, put her finger to her mouth, signalling to the woman to shush, then touched her on the shoulder twice.
The other woman then stood up and started shouting expletives at Ms Clayton before storming out of the cinema.
Police arrived and escorted Ms Clayton out of the theatre.
The maligned woman told officers Ms Clayton had been "invading her private space" and accused the Australian of assault.
Police subsequently arrested Ms Clayton and charged her with assault.
Ms Clayton was fined $176, the Seven Network reported today.
Seven showed vision of a smiling Ms Clayton leaving what appeared to be a court building but it was unclear whether she had paid the fine.
"If I don't have a traffic violation or touch anyone again in 90 days, there's no conviction," she said.
I think she should have been fined for not smacking the bitch up who took a phone call in a movie.

Can you imagine being on a jury and being asked to convict a kid for possession of sugar??? I just might burst out laughing at the prosecutor over it. If the judge lets it get that far. If the prosecutor doesn't just laugh the police out of his office.
As for the lady in the theater - I suspect there's a lot more to the story than the lady told her hometown paper...

Yeah. The offender was fat and talking loudly.
This story says she's getting charged herself.
Aussie tourist arrested for asking for quiet in cinema By admin | Related entries in Really Really Dumb
An Australian tourist has been charged with assault after telling a Texas woman to stop talking on her mobile phone at the movies.
According to The Daily Telegraph, Pauline Clayton was enjoying a matinee screening of Brokeback Mountain in a Texas cinema when her day suddenly turned ugly.
About halfway through the movie, a mobile phone started ringing nearby, a woman answered it and started talking.
“I put one finger up to my mouth to shoosh her,†Ms Clayton said.
“She ignored me - I then leaned across and touched her with three or four fingers on the top of her arm.â€
When the “very large†woman failed to end her call, Ms Clayton again touched her on the shoulder and that was when the woman exploded.
Ms Clayton said the woman stood up over her, started shouting expletives at her and then stormed out of the cinema, in the town of Webster, just outside Houston.
A short time later two Texas police officers walked into the cinema and escorted Ms Clayton out.
She said the police took her to the food bar and explained that the woman had accused Ms Clayton of “invading her private spaceâ€. The woman had made a complaint of assault because Ms Clayton had touched her.
“They were very apologetic,†Ms Clayton said.
“They were very uncomfortable.â€
Ms Clayton said the officers had tried to dissuade the woman from making a complaint and had even told the woman that if she did make the complaint, police would charge the woman with disorderly conduct and using a profanity for her outburst in the cinema.
The woman refused to back down and not only was Ms Clayton charged, but the woman is now also due in court after being charged over her behaviour.
Ms Clayton was issued a citation and will appear in a Texas court next week to answer the charge.
With the help of an off-duty police officer who saw the fracas, she is hoping to escape with only a fine.
In the meantime Ms Clayton said she was hoping to get back to see the second half of Brokeback Mountain.
If convicted, Ms Clayton who grew up in Victoria and once worked as a journalist for The Sun newspaper in Brisbane, faces a fine of up to $675.
She said she had been told a conviction would not affect her chances of re-entering the US. Police said it was a “little matter†and they would not be notifying US immigration authorities about any conviction.
Can't get a much better character witness in court than a non-related off-duty policeman.

Webster TX? I'm familiar with Webster. It's between I-45 freeway and maybe two miles from NASA, next to Clear Lake City.
No way does she get a ticket for "invading her private space". No such thing. It's the "touching", and the cops thought it was more like "wouldn't let go" if they bothered. Or the lady kept whining at them. The Webster cops aren't that amateur and I bet they got credible witness statements that she tried to grab the phone or something, and for a ticket I bet it was more than once.
An off-duty officer witnessed this, inside a theater showing BrokenBack Mountain??? No way does any police officer in that area admit to voluntarily going to see a gay cowboy film.
She's not telling the truth. One of the Aussie papers ought to find out the date and send the Webster police chief an e-mail asking for the public incident report.
