Snowman...how do AVN purportedly collect the data used to compile the sales and rental charts? As far as I'm aware, it's largely anecdotal.

Snowman, Kernes just proved what I thought...it's anecdotal. There's no guarantee that what the retailer says is true and/or correct, and if you gave 20 of the 35-50 retailers $1,000 each to say 'Title X' is pissing all over Jules Jordan's latest movie in sales terms, then you could probably get said imaginary title in the AVN Top Ten.

If a distributor was handling and compiling the Top Ten, I'd give it a lot more credence...but that still wouldn't be much credence.

Also, on a purely statistical basis, are 35-50 retailers (out of how many stores nationwide?) really going to give an accurate reflection on the buying trends for the whole of America? At the most, it equates to one per state (if you forget about the Bible Belt ones), but even then it's hardly enough. The only way to be sure is to see some hard and fast figures, which we all know won't be forthcoming.

Having said that, I'm really glad you picked his brain on this issue Snowman, because I think a unified and accurate chart would be a damn good thing.
