CHATSWORTH, Calif. - Sean Michaels has parted company with Platinum X and its parent company Red Light District, which has distributed his Sean Michaels Productions product for almost two and a half years.

“It was mutual,” Michaels told AVN.com after his meeting this morning with Red Light owner David Joseph. “I have nothing bad to say about them. They wanted to go in a different direction. It is not a negative to me or my career. I just want to move on.”

“Sean and I are still very good friends,” Joseph told AVN.com. “We’re just severing our professional ties. Basically it’s a win-win for both of us.”

Michaels created SMP as an independent manufacturer in 1998 but signed a distribution-production deal with Red Light’s original owner Dion Giarusso in October 2003. His product went out on the Platinum X label.

The actor-director owns all his movies — “close to a hundred titles,” he said, and he’s in discussion with several companies about distributing them.

Michaels is the fifth director to depart Red Light District-Platinum X in recent months, following Vince Vouyer, Erik Everhard, Mike John and Manuel Ferrara.
