I too was a little disturbed by this at first, because I agree it was a 50/50 thing and from that perspective any "punishment" should be equal. But when you look at it from the point of view of someone trying to maintain order on this board, it makes more sense. It's not about taking sides, it's about protecting the board from being overwhelmed with bickering junk posts. People are put in the penalty box for a short period of time with the promise from the outset that they will be allowed back. It's really just the enforcement of a cooling off period. Now who needed to cool off here?

Hav2cit is an anonymous poster on a message board who is merely toying with Ryan's hot buttons for fun. I highly doubt his blood pressure jumped a single point through the whole exchange. If Hav2cit had been put in the box, you can bet others would have taken his place taunting Ryan and the problem would continue. On the other hand, without Ryan biting his hook, Hav2cit does not present a problem.

Ryan, on the other hand, has a real identity with a reputation that he wants to defend. Unfortunately, he seems to lack judgement when dealing with shit-talking on message boards. He clearly needs to reflect on when not to take the bait. Maybe a few days in the box will help him do this.
