The problem is, it's not all unexplained. He says

. Science has yet to find (much less examine) a "certifiably" fundamental particle

in the sentence right after he mentions leptons. Nothing metaphysical here, and leptons are widely believed to be fundamental. And I think electrons (one of the leptons) might be considered "found and examined".

Maybe I should and try reading it again.
