Depends on the size of the leak. If it´s a small leak, it will make ice normally, but "infect" it as well.
And the freon used on freezers isn´t odorless at all. In fact, it smells like old cigar butts. Just buy a can and check it, instead of looking for stuff on the Internet.

Not to mention the copper used on freezers. Copper alone is mostly harmless, but when combined to a gas, it becomes toxic.
(BTW, "toxic" doesn´t mean "lethal". Not everything that´s toxic kills).
