WHITE PLAINS — A 27-year-old New Rochelle man was convicted of first- and second-degree assault today for biting off a chunk of his girlfriend's cheek on Mother's Day.
Gareth Whyte faces up to 25 years in prison when he is sentenced by state Supreme Court Justice Lester Adler on March 1. The jury reached a verdict after getting the case yesterday afternoon and rejected defense lawyer Robert Horne's contention that there was insufficient proof Dorothy Pritchett had been bitten or seriously injured or disfigured.
The assault late on May 8 outside Pritchett's New Rochelle home ended a day of arguing and scuffling. Pritchett had allowed Whyte to move in with her and her four children about a year earlier.
