Too literal? There's no such thing here. There's a difference between taking a drug prescribed to you by a doctor to recover from an illness and taking a foreign substance into your body in order to change your perception of reality, ie alcohol, marijuana, or methamphetamine.
Sometimes it only takes one or two times for someone to become addicted to meth or even to alcohol and an addiction isn't always started to fill a void. That doesn't make them less of a human being than you just because it doesn't effect you the same way and doesn't give you the right to look down on them.
