I grew up not far from where the Texas City Explosion happened, well before my time. That happened at a port, not an fuel storage facility, and it went up all at once rather than a fire that burned over time.

I think they left the ship's anchor where it landed two miles (!) inland.

About ten years ago my parent's garage door was buckled by a n explosion 12 miles away - a pipeline broke, leaking fuel into a small valley, and the pipeline operator apparently didn't notice a problem until it went BOOM!
