I've often had the same question. The money is the attraction, I'm sure, but there must be some powerful forces pushing against joining the business like boyfriends, family, etc. that these ladies must deal with as well.

On the other hand, with the changes in mores in the 21st century, overt sexuality and sensuality is much more prevalent. That means that being in the business is much less a social stigma today than it was even 10 years ago.
