I think the jarhead is trying to make a bad situation good. As I remember, both girls where 18 when they entered the biz. One, Cali, already had a kid at the time. Maybe he just saw potential in the girl. Or maybe by helping her fix herself, he himself was fixing some deep rooted problem he had with himself. Took some psychology in school.
