Has anyone seen this film? Cronenberg did a wonderful job realizing this graphic novel without turning it into an auteur film. He has finally redeemed himself from the mediocrity of "Spider" and "Existanze".

ummm are we talking about the same film? i went to the screening and he had no idea about the graphic novel story. Some people asked him why he didn't include some characters and he asked the forum host what they were talking about.

I only know that it was a graphic novel because i noticed the names of the writer and artist. John Wagner was a writer for Sandman Mystery Thteatre (DC Comics) and Vince Locke is notorious for his Cannibal Corpse Album Covers. Im sure the screenwriters changed a few things,and the lack of knowledge from Cronenberg is probably a good thing meaning he didnt read the graphic novel which means he couldnt get the chance to potentially fuck it up. His last good movie before this was Dead Ringers.

I saw it, despite the presence of pseudo-Eurotrash Viggo Mortensen. The reviews on rottentomatoes.com suggested it was supposed to be some sort of analysis of America's fascination with violence, blah, blah, etc. I thought it was just a dumb action movie myself. Either way, it looks like the movie bombed so Viggo can join Alec Baldwin on Hollywood Squares. Good riddance.

I'm sure there could be a number of people who were ready to play the main characters, but besides that point, I don't think it was a film about Americas fascination with violence. I found it to be a story of a man with an existential dilemma. a Battle between what he once was and who he is now; that despite his attempts as anonymity, he could not escape the past because the past was part of his existential project, hence his attempt to delude the past was an act of Sartrian bad faith. The film also seems to touch basis on the biology of violence, whether it is learned or passed on through genes in respect to the pacifistic, reasonable son in the film. Yet the dynamic of violence is also intertwined with sex and death with respect to the relationship between the main character and his wife, taking on a Bataillian relationship between violence, sex, death and orgasm.

i find jingoism and flag-waving quite entertaining. excuse me while i watch monday night football and flip to wrestling during the commercials.
