I mean his writings often make a numbers of points to lead to whatever conclusion he is pitching that day, and often the logic leading to his conclusion is just not there even though his individual points are well supported. It's like reading a mathematical proof that carefully proves a set of supporting theorems and then just says "and so obviously it's true" when it's time to address the main theorem.

The national Republicans today didn't even exist 30 years ago. Beyond the big-brotherism and lack of fiscal self-control, the most obvious difference between a modern Republican and a Rockefeller Republican is in welfare: the Rockefeller Republicans believed there was a place for welfare as long the situation isn't the recipient's fault whereas the modern nation Republicans simply don't care.
