This is the guy that should be on Meet the Press instead of Jackson and Sharpton.

Stanley Crouch is da man. It's a shame his words will go unheeded.

I like this guy. It's about time that this hip-hop "culture" is recognized as a peddling of derogatory stereotypes - exaclty as minstrelsy was 100 years ago.

And I'm tired of people quoting Russell Simmons as if that guy has some cultural value. Russell Simmons is a huckster. He will tell you anything to sell his goods. Not that I mind hucksters, but this guys product is trash and people acting like something's significant because Russell Simmons said it is just nonsense.

Didn't the above post cover the Insignificance of that whole genre? Or did I miss something?
Not that I disagree with you, I just missed the use of the quote.

Guess I just used the quote because I was continuing the rant Phlog started.

Just for fun, let's look at what previous hip-hop fads looked like:

Are these any more silly than:

Future looks grim, Kanye. Save your money and give Freddy Krueger his shirt back.

Did MC Hammer still have street cred when he was dressing in that poofy purple stuff?

The guy in Freddy's shirt's name is Kanye? He looks kind of like P. Diddy to me. Whoever he is, it takes some nerve to try to look tough while wearing bright yellow and baby blue.

I think the first pic with Fresh Prince and DZ Jazzy Jeff is just a matter of, "hey, if looking goofy sells..."

I don't know if Hammer ever had street cred, but, in my experience, he's the one who made rap the "music" of choice in suburbs across America. (Some credit goes to RUN DMC, who collaborated with Aerosmith.)

The guy at bottom is Kanye "Bush doesn't care about Black people" West. He's raps latest flavor of the month. He came from an upper middle class suburb in Illinois and had a two parent household - no street cred there!

The guys up top are Kid & Play, although the inability to distinguish them from DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince definitely goes to my point.
