New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin (search) greeted President Bush when he arrived in Louisiana last night, and was at his side as he fielded questions on the Katrina relief efforts this morning. That quality time with the president, however, marks the mayor's first visit to the disaster area since Wednesday when Nagin pulled up stakes and moved his family to Dallas. The Dallas Morning News reports that Nagin has already bought a house in the city, and enrolled his daughter in school.
When the Mayor appeared on "Meet the Press" on Sunday from Dallas, he was never asked about his presence there, or his decision to move his family.

Hell, yeah! There was a hurricane coming to destroy New Orleans! You'd better believe I'd get the fuck out of Dodge.
When you've got to move your family to Dallas, I can see it irking the fuck out of me that all the president does is fly over New Orleans in Air Force One. When was the last time you guys moved? It's always a bigger pain in the ass than you expect. If I were that mayor, I'd be all over the radio to talking shit about that fly-over just like he did.
How can you expect a man to coordinate the deployment of several hundred school buses when he's got to move his family to Dallas?

The rebuilding will go a lot more smoothly with the Wizzer of Crisis Management out of the way.
Yeah, I realize that it's probably too early to start getting excited about the rebuilding. What, with them not even having found all the dead bodies and the stragglers getting such a raw deal with the sacrifices they had to make. But, I'm excited about that rebuilding. Have just started gathering some information and am hoping to invest in Real Estate in New Orleans.
I'm a couple of states from New Orleans, but it's kind of been general knowledge even here that the Louisiana government is corrupt. With the big disaster, is it really such a surprise that their government is incompetent also? With better government, no way Louisiana doesn't do better than they did.
However, if the people of Louisiana are not smart enough to throw both Nagin and Blanco out on their asses, I'm throwing all my research the fuck away no matter how much time I've spent learning about New Orleans. Will burn that shit so I'm not even tempted to buy there.

I hope Texas keeps his sorry ass.
The governor, of LA. should move in next door to him.
You're too kind. I say leave them in the Superdome with the NOLA natives without their bodyguards. It would be nice to get the refugees proclivity towards rape and murder put towards a purpose benefiting society.

So you feel getting the fuck out of Dodge and leaving someone/anyone else to coordinate the evacuation is the correct behaviour for a mayor? The save my own ass fuck you plan. I like it. It just seems so right.

What exactly could the Presadent have done on the ground? Hell their own police were running scared. I don't even need to comment on my last move. I can tell you it was not as smooth as the mayors'.

How?? Beacuse that's his fucking job! He didn't do it so now this fuck nut wants to dirvert blame from his ass by placing it every/anywhere else. The key word in your question is Man. Nagin doesn't fit that word.
I found just what I expected to find. As someone that lived in NO, I expected nothing less than him thinking of his family and his own ass first. Then I expected him to blame everyone he could think of, but himself for the fallout from Katrina.
Thank God I moved slightly north before Katrina hit.
I found just what I expected. It's all the fault of the devil white man.
For a stark contrast, just look east in MS. They got to work and have had very few of the problems associated with NO. The people there worked together and are getting the job done. Strange contrast don't you think.
BTW I am still living with the after math of this storm, so I tend to take all this personally. But hell I still have a roof over my head so things could be worse. YMMV

A lot of times, if you don't save your own ass, nobody does. Look at all those people who got stuck holding the ball in New Orleans. Nobody saved their ass cause they didn't save their own.

The President flying over was a symbol. If I were sitting on my couch in my new house in Dallas, then saw a report on television about the President jetting gallantly over the city in ruins. You'd better believe I'd make all the possible noise I could about that President needing to get his butt to work in New Orleans. Nagin knew full well he couldn't do a damn thing about it. He doesn't make all kinds of ridiculous noise, maybe New Orleans goes another couple of days without federal support.
You saw Cherloff's double-talk about how they didn't know that people were stuck in the convention center. That was BS saying he was too busy to know what was going on. For whatever reason, FEMA was overwhelmed and couldn't do anything about the convention center. Then, you've got to come on television and not admit you're a mess, but act like "oh yeah, it's unfortunate, but....". Nagin doesn't make a lot of riduculous noise, who knows how much longer FEMA "didn't know" people were stuck in the convention center.

That mayor saw that Hurricane coming and knew damn well New Orleans wasn't going to make it. You've got to divert blame everywhere to make it look like you gave a fuck. He knows he's getting kicked out of the mayor's seat on his ass. You don't divert blame and people sue your ass on top of it. The Mayor is a wealthy man, he had a lot to lose in lawsuits.

Hmmm, guess we're not arguing. That's what I been saying.

Yeah, smart move. Like I said above. I'm interested in the New Orleans rebuild, but not unless that region shows more intelligence than the last corrupt government they had. Good government presented with the funds and opportunity to rebuild, that place could light a fire in economic growth.
