After witnessing the debacle of the Night of the Living Dead 25th anniv. edition with extra new scenes and editing by the producer John Russo (and all the death-threats made to the makers of this version in chatrooms,) I can only imagine the vomit that will be expelled from my body when hollywood destroys Dawn of the Dead. Complete with a new script, it appears to be a complete trainwreck. To those interested, please sign this online petition-

Stop the Dawn of the Dead remake!!

Whats next? Will 'return of the living dead' be remade with blink 182 wanna-be punk kids and CGI 'Jar Jar Binks' style graphics of the Tarman Zombie?

This comes down to the old question of ownership. The people/companies that own these films are trying to squeeze as much money as possible out of them. They remake or update them because they think that most won't go to see a re-released original version. I hate to see these classics butchered as well but I would also hate someone telling what I could or couldn't do with something I owned. The only way to really keep them from ruining these movies (IMHO) is to get people not go to them. Take the financial gain out of it.

I don´t give much of a fuck if they´re remaking DAWN or not, as long as they don´t tamper with the original.

Plus, that only increases the chances of Anchor Bay going the extra mile for their planned super-definifive-ultimate-multidisc-box set release of the REAL DAWN.

Which was is that? Is it the one in which the very fat purple zombie gets shot on a boat at the start?
Or the one set in the supermarket?

Yeah, guys, this "redux" surely has the scent of $$$ all over it,for I'm planning not to see it(unless the word-of-mouth is good on it),since it really has nothing to offer or expand upon.

Cheers. Err, I saw that in 1980, at the cinema. I was scared stiff, but having watched it on television eight months ago, I was disappointed. Wasn't as scary as I once thought...
Salem's Lot still makes me leave the lights on at night and close the curtains real tight.

What you saw in the cinema was probably edited; therw was a R rated version (not unrated,) that had serious edits and a different soundtrack (by the goblins, but I might be wrong.) Its not that it was a scary movie, it just had so much intangible coolness that is so thoroughly lacking in most horror lately. I read a few script reviews of the dawn of the dead remake and they panned it. But, maybe they have a bias against remakes much like me. Scifi/horror remakes suck!

Planet of the apes, texas chain saw, Psycho, House on Haunted Hill, Godzilla, Rollerball?

Has a remake ever been good? I liked the 1990 night of the living dead remake; its about the only thing I can think of.

I just envision hollywood recycling old movies like Last House on the Left and it makes me cringe.....

Actuallu, P Knuckle, this Tv screening was supposed to be the original movie, complete, no edits, so I reckon the version I watched in 1980 was the same one on TV.
You're right though, remakes suck as a ruel. I can only think of one good remake, but it wasn't horror:
THE GREAT ESCAPE which was borrowed from an earlier, black and white 1950s' version starring Dirk Bogart. THE 1963 GREAT ESCAPE WAS MILES BETTER.

horror, most definitely... but i love good horror. i was pissed after seeing the travesty of the TCM remake this year which completely threw away the soul of the original. i have heard decent things about the Dawn remake, and i might see it, but i am more lloking forward to the DVD release of the original in Feb, or March of next year.

BTW. not much good horror comes out of the states anymore it seems, they all rehash the same formulas, but check out japanese horror for a great thrill.

I´ve just ordered a $5.00 DVD: G. Romero´s "Night Of The Living Dead" (1968). Can someone tell me which would be the scariest most gory zombie horror movie ever (released on DVD). I want the best of the best.

@keiko...I asked because sometimes there is a very fine deviding line between horror and romance.
Any romance with Hugh Grant in it is HORROR to me.

@The Edge...you'll love that film you ordered. It's bloody fantastic, and really scary. It's black and white and made on a budget of a couple of borrowed cameras, film won in a raffle, and actors WHO were paid in how much gas they could fill their cars with.
EXCELLENT HORROR, THOUGH.

i just rented this zombie flick, "Junk" that was pretty cool. but Dawn of the dead is the ultimate zombie film.

LB, i got what you meant, and i must agree most things with that fop in them are horror. but, no LHOTL is not romantic even in my twisted little mind, even when the mom bites the guys cock off (OWWW!) but sometimes romance and horror can go well together, somtimes not though (cough,Return of the living dead 3, cough). i just saw this movie moonlight whispers... romantic, but EXTREMELY fuckin twisted. it has a SMBD and fetish theme running as an undertone to the whole film and in many ways is very disturbing. it is one of those movies you do have to be a film fan to appreciate since most would consider it kinda slow and it is all more of a mind fuck than anything.

@keiko...I think there's scope for a zombie porn movie. When you think about it, the being eaten bit in zombie horror is often associated with a sexual
slant.
Putting the two together, you could have a million seller on your hands.
Fancy starring in it, Keiko?

Romero´s DAY OF THE DEAD is also cool.

Well they made a video from the movie and it was a bunch of rednecks with guns and they we're marching saying "We've the dawn of the dead, beat 'em or burn 'em" anyone who remembers this is from the old school and I give much respect .

well, keiko and i went to see this film toinight, after re-watching the original last night...

im iffy on it.

if you don't think of it as dawn of the dead, it rocks. it lacks DotD's anti-consumerism message and really does not capture the true spirit of the original, where they kinda spent a lot of time fucking with the zombies and getting comfortable with their situation.
iin this one it is very rushed, we have a much larger cast and it does not have the same personality.... the reasons why they get to the mall and why they leave were my biggest complaints, that and lack of charachter develpment.
but, on the whole i liked it. dispite not having the message romero put in the original, it did have a great ending, in true romero style... not a happy ending, a fuck you ending... you have to see it to know what i mean, but it was well executed.

still not feeling the fast zombies or the shakey cam.... but on the whole it was a great flick, but i want to see it do VERY well. so that maybe a studio will fund romero's 4th dead film, tentatively titled dead reckoning.

oh yeah, and ving rhames rocked, and i wanna stick the tip in sarah polley

I'm not going to bother with it.Most remakes suck. Remember "Physco" or "Planet of The Apes"? They both sucked. Would anyone go see a remake of Star Wars or Rocky? Why tamper with a good, original movie.Just leave it alone. Dawn of The Dead is a classic and should remain as such.

Saw the half hour thing on E! about this yesterday and it looked like shit the more I saw the clips and heard the actors talk... Now why the fuck would you dare remake a classic like this? They're just trying to cash in on horror and no longer have any original ideas. Like the stupid Scream was nowhere near the first Halloween or even Friday the 13th for that matter. and fuck Freddy vs. Jason. plus, don't even mention that Blair Witch joke. They better not dare touch Evil Dead.

actually, Bruce Campbell and Sam Rami are talking seriously about ED4 now, for the first time in a long time... but if it happens it wont be for a little while because Campbell is trying to get funding for Pahntasm's End and Rami is doing Spiderman 3

Smutmutant, the reason for the remake was 1. original producer Richard Rubinstein sorely needed to make some quick money, and 2.the studio and producers strongly yearned to make an American rip-off of "28 Days Later",which is what this remake more heavily resembles.
Too bad that today's current horror scene completely blows, for the good ole original days(50s,60s,70s,and 80s)easily kick the living shit out of today's era(and all of the films and the current generation of brain-damaged fans[the ones that write very stupid messages on boards, which does not include any of us!!!] that are in it).
