Margold Steps Down From FSC BOARD

CANOGA PARK, Calif. - The ever colorful and ever controversial William Margold has stepped down from the Free Speech Coalition (FSC), the adult trade association. The move comes less than a month after former executive director of the FSC Bill Lyon stepped down.
According to a statement released by the interim executive director of the FSC Kate Sunlove, Margold stepped down in order to dedicate himself to Protecting Adult Welfare (P.A.W.), a social welfare organization that he founded to help members of the adult industry.
“With the support of the adult entertainment community, I plan to focus my energies on building P.A.W. into the organization it really can and should be,” Margold said in a statement. “We are a charitable non-profit so we plan to pursue foundation grants and other subsidies for new programs we want to implement and existing programs we want to improve. That could even include a capital grant to allow us to buy a building to house our programs.”
Following the “Mi Porn” prosecutions in the late 1980s, Margold helped create the Free Speech Legal Defense Fund, the precursor of today’s FSC. Margold organized a number of fundraisers for the FSC throughout the years, and was even jailed in 1993 for organizing a fundraiser in Las Vegas.
Margold, a member of the AVN Hall of Fame, the X.R.C.O Hall of Fame, and the Hustler Hollywood Porn Walk of Fame, has been involved in virtually every creative aspect of adult entertainment. He began his career in adult in 1969 as a journalist and reviewer, became a performer and a director, and was a manager for nearly a decade.
But of late he’s been known best as an unabashedly opinionated historian, often called upon by journalists and documentarians for interviews, as well as an informal surrogate father, or “Papa Bear,” for transient performers and newbies, and for his fundraising efforts on behalf of both the FSC and P.A.W.
Margold also co-founded the X-Rated Critics Organization and he founded and still operates Fans of X-Rated Entertainment, or F.O.X.E.
“The members of the Board of Directors of FSC wish Bill great success in this next endeavor and look forward to working with him to improve the lives of members of the adult entertainment family,” the statement released by the Board read.
No replacement has yet been named to fill Margold’s position on the board.
