Holly,

I haven't seen the new Penthouse but to come to their defense, putting out a quality print publication is extremely difficult because you have to rely on advertisers who pay their bills.

My guess is that most advertisers were pretty skeptical about getting into long term, high $ contract with a mag that was already BK, so revenue was probably pretty low. Reality sucks - unfortunately in the print world 'everybody' wants the ads for zip up front to see if they will pull before making a commitment.

Until Penthouse sees some ad revenue, they'll continue to put out a crappy publication... or fold again.

LOL, I knew my post would go up on lukeisback.com.
I understand the point about the bad printing, but that doesn't excuse the horrible cover. I've posted it just so you guys can see what I'm talking about. Does that picture, of a ho-hum girl on a boring brown background intice you to buy the magazine? I would venture to say no. In fact, I didn't even recognize that it was Penthouse at first glance-- I thought it was a random foreign mag that we get mailed from time to time. Every girl in the biz would love to grace the cover of Penthouse, so it just baffles me why they picked this girl. It just makes me sad, because I always loved the magazine and was so proud to have my work published in it-- and now it's just unrecognizable. And I know the new owner has very deep pockets that he boasted about putting into the publication-- but I don't see that happening here. Do you?

Paper's so expensive I doubt any individual could bankroll upgrading that. I've worked in publishing and you can tell how well a magazine's doing from the quality of the advertising it carries. That's tied to the editorial. If people by Penthouse for the pictures (which they do) they should use the highest quality pictures they can on the best paper. They can then use that to sell more ads and pay for the the beter shooters - like you Holly. As they are they're on a downward spiral...
